Difficult question - Syncing PC/Outlook with Mac
I use Outlook 2003 on the PC a lot, it syncs with my Pocket PC (Windows Mobile 2003). I have Office 2004 for Mac installed with Entourage. The funny thing of Microsoft that they absolutely fucking suck at cross-platform compatibility and that Entourage can't import .pst files from Outlook. Their own product for finnagle's sake.
The thing is that I want to synchronize my contacts/mail/tasks etc. on the PC and Mac and Pocket PC. iSync only syncs with Palms, though I could find some program that could add that functionality to iSync.
I know that I can import the Outlook .pst file into Mozilla Thunderbird and then import the mail to Entourage. But isn't there something that can sync everything anytime I want. I know that you can set up an Exchange server, but you need to install Windows Server 2003 for that.
I've done some research on google already, there are some promising solutions, but most of them involve importing and not syncing and often are cumbersome in progress.
I wonder if anyone knows a solution, thx.

As I since long ago for these very platform/file incompatibility reasons have decided never to put any of my data through a Microsoft product again I don't have a ready-made answer but if there is any free/shareware that does what you need chances are you find it at http://www.versiontracker.com

I think I've found something:

It might not sync, but it's a startOutlook2Mac may be the fastest way to move your Windows® Outlook® email, contacts, and calendar appointments from your PC to your Macintosh® computer! (1) Just fire up Outlook2Mac on your Windows PC, pick the Outlook folders you want to export, choose the filtering options you want to use, and click Start — Outlook2Mac does the rest, automatically exporting your Outlook data into portable files you can import directly into your Apple® Mail, Address Book, iCal, Microsoft Entourage, or other Macintosh-compatible programs. Back up all of your PC's email and email attachments to your Apple! Copy your Outlook contacts from work to home and vice-versa! Migrate all of your calendar appointments from your old PC to your new Mac! The possibilities are endless!
If you want to sync your PocketPC with your powerbook, your options are Pocketmac and Missing Sync
I knew about missing sync but I think i'll keep my PPC syncing with the PC. Most of the PPC programs are windows installers anyway. Missing Sync can install .cab files though.Geebs wrote:If you want to sync your PocketPC with your powerbook, your options are Pocketmac and Missing Sync
I still have to give Mail and iCal a shot, maybe I'll just forfeit Entourage and use that Outlook2Mac program to keep the database uptodate.
Pocketmac will sync your smartphoneDoombrain wrote:do you know if that would work with a smartphone?

Hmm, you've got to be careful about syncing a PDA with two different computers, they can go a bit funny. Seriously, though, I wouldn't bother with Mail and iCal if you've got Entourage already - it's so much more convenient to have those and your address book in one app (although I wish they'd been able to hook it into the OS in the same way as the Address Book). In my case, I also have a couple of old hotmail accounts, so Entourage is pretty much the only way to go.
