the played their Xbox for about a year before saying fuck that shit and going back to pc...

all of em play on their PC's 90% of the time...

Unfortunately there are ALOT of people who think PC isn't just dying but dead...and unfortunately ALOT of those people work in the games industry....and ALOT of those people work in marketing.

We'll have this discussion every console life cycle. In two years from now there will be a new generation of consoles which will eventually trump the PC in terms of performance. Then, as those grow older, PCs will be at an advantage again. There is no end for either platform.

Shouldn't there be in the near future a gaming machine that combines the two? An upgradable console? Is there any way that would work without it just being a PC? Developers could still specify a game for a certain console, but the consumer could upgrade the console to maximize the performance. But that's still just a PC. I don't know. Is anything coming down the pipe that is trying to do something like this?

To your first point....this what people WILL be talking about:

- how the tech on the new consoles has improved over the last gen (d'uh)
- how consoles can compete with PCs and we should all admit that PC gaming is dying.

However, the only people that you can guarantee will be talking about point number 2 will be the same idiots that say the same idiotic things every single time a new console comes out. These people, who usually aggregate other people's reporting and don't do any research themselves, should be summarily ignored because they have their heads up their asses, only focus on "trending" and - ultimately - have no fucking clue what they're talking about. Like I said...it's always the same idiots who bring up this discussion...and some of them give talks at GDC about what the industry should focus on...such as discussions about how EVERY dev should drop what they're doing and create Facebook/Farmville games....christ I've heard that example of colossal genius for the last 3 years. And they're always-fucking-wrong.

Those idiots should be working at McDonalds where they belong and we should - as a matter of course - ignore any "discussions" on the topic, as it is without a doubt a discussion among morons.

Yeah dude, an upgradable console would be awesome. Plus imagine if you could like, buy a mouse and keyboard for it and speakers and maybe add components and stuff so you can even surf the internet on it. Plus, a bigger hard drive so you can install programs and even do some non-gaming stuff on it from time to time. You're a fucking genius, you moron.
