More steam deals
Re: More steam deals
Aye, just nabbed all FEAR games, DLC and mission packs for a Fiver... Not bad.
The other *deals* are a bit hit and miss really. But those are the ones that are on the entire time. Its only day one, so the super special ones are still coming.

I saw the Square-Enix pack on Savygamer earlier, and that's a LOT of game right there.

Re: More steam deals
Unfortunately, unless you buy it retail, I suspect you're not going to get it cheaper than that. Capcom are a bit backwards regarding pricing of digital download sales.Memphis wrote:Dead Rising 2 still not cheap enough.
Gameplay currently have it listed for £15.99, but out of stock.
Re: More steam deals
I bought metro 2033 last week for 10 bucks through steam. Beautiful graphics and scenery considering the setting, but the gameplay was unforgiving and made you feel uncomfortably hopeless. in that respect it reminds me alot of STALKER. Fucking russians, and their rugged culture, they make for some games that I'm not even sure I enjoy playing. The feeling of desperation is almost too much to consider it a form of entertainment. In this game finishing a level was like a chore, and due to it's unfriendly nature I couldn't take more than 1 or 2 hours of straight play through time.
Having said that, they had some great ideas in this game, and not to give anything out, but this game fucks with your head in some areas.
over all I give it a 7/10 and that's a little generous .

I'm playing this, and it's indeed...challenging.Memphis wrote:So Super Meat Boy. Is it all that and chips for platforming or is it just quorn masquerading as steak? I loves me some platforming, but i fucking hate Mario, so if 50% of it is fighting inertia upon landing on pixel-wide blocks i'll just get pissed with it. Anyone?
The whole premise is the simplicity of the controls + learning the levels, and then try try try try try try try (...) try try try, until you finish them, preferably in the alloted time frame.
Some levels you just zoom through, while some make you want to go kill yourself.
If you find mario frustrating, don't bother with this.
As a nice counter balance, I'm also playing the undergarden.
I can recommend this if you like a very zen and relaxing platforming experience, while still having a modicum of purpose solving the puzzles.
Beautifully crafted little game.

That's what I love about Stalker and Metro. They don't coddle you and make you feel invincible and the struggle makes the payoff that much better. Makes you think about what you're fixing to do instead of running in guns blazing.Tsakali wrote:I bought metro 2033 last week for 10 bucks through steam. Re: More steam deals
It seems like a decent platforming game though not quite as awesome as I had heard or was expecting. The first thing that really bothered me was the inability to customize keyboard controls. This really hinders play as the accuracy demanded by the game isn't possible with the way it's setup let alone the that it's incredibly uncomfortable. I've lent my ps2 controller to someone else so I'm unable to enjoy it.Memphis wrote:Bought SMB. I fucking hate it.
If you do want some top notch platforming I'd recommend VVVVVV.

I recently purchased it about a month ago with one of those indie packs they had going. I was pretty much blown away by how original and fun it was. The music was also top notch. It looks like it's on sale too. Wouldn't hurt to give the demo a shot if you're interested. I'd recommend to at least play through the second level of the demo because that's one of the best levels in the game and also has the best song in the entire game.
Here's the song:

likewise...though i found them more like teletubbies.Memphis wrote:I did play the demo during the treasure hunt. Cute looking game, nice ambient feel indeed, though i found the bloated furby thing you control to be somehow rather disturbing.Plan B wrote: I'm also playing the undergarden.

Bought Plants vs Zombies GOTY and Tomb Raider, plus a friend gifted me HL2 and Episode 1.
Re: More steam deals
I played a game on Wii called New Super Mario Bros. Hell Boy Edition. Was totally a fan made hack, but worked on the Wii. Fuck me if it didn't make me want to scream, hard as tits... Its like that one end level at the end of NSMC with the ice and shit, only 100x worse, ALL the time...Eraser wrote:Mario too tough for you? rofl.Memphis wrote:So Super Meat Boy. Good times were had... Took us an hour to get past the first 2 levels...
Re: More steam deals
Totally agreed. I lost all enthusiasm to continue. So many other, better games I want to play through.Memphis wrote:I think what i dislike about SMB most is that there's no structure to it beyond bare bones platform challenges. Which i know is the whole point, but it comes off as more of a puzzle game with 'here's a room - get to the other side - done'. I guess i just don't get much gratification from gameplay coming in 20 second chunks. I wanna run about exploring for stuff, collecting stuff and killing stuff whilst jumping about. Although it does have slight charm, SMB just plays like every annoying bit of Mario squashed into one game.
Yah, it's "different"; it takes all elements you fucking hate in platformers, and condenses it. Yay.
No offense to the creators, but masochism just isn't my thing.
As far as the undergarden goes, who gives a shit about how the protagonist looks, it's about the gameplay, baby.
I appreciate how there's no time/death-threat, just fucking about.
Very sweet to wind down with, when slightly intoxicated.
Also, I think it was you who pointed me toward Defense Grid.
If you hadn't noticed; there's a Gold version out with 2 new worlds with about 10 new levels, or something.
I've sunk more hours into this shit than I care to admit. This is the ultimate tower def, zone out, after work, game.
Highly recommended.
Re: More steam deals
Seeing as my I7 950 came today with mobo and ram I figured I would drop the cash on Just Cause 2 at the lovely price of a fiver. Can't go wrong. Gloat+
Re: More steam deals
Fucking Mazda convinced me to buy L4D2 the day before the deal. Now he won't even play.Captain Mazda wrote:Bought Plants vs Zombies GOTY and Tomb Raider, plus a friend gifted me HL2 and Episode 1.

Edit: are the BF Bad Company games worth it?
Re: More steam deals

Darksiders was a great game on PS3. If the PC port was well done the game is well worth buying.
