It doesn't seem all that impressive to me, but I think it's because this reminds me of Timeshift, which I was disappointed with.

The good:

- time- and gravity manip tools are fun to use, esp when solving puzzles that allow you to proceed
- good level scripting, despite backtracks
- satisfying weapons
- lot of effort has gone into telling a story
- can be difficult. finally a game I actually die once or twice at some point
- reminded me of doom quite a few times

The bad:

- poor enemy AI. difficulty is sometimes more defined by quantity of enemies than quality
- bit too grindy for my taste, altho upgrade system is pretty well done
- poor implementation of the ut3 engine. minimal graphics options. no antialiasing :/

The ugly:

There's this bug that when you play on high resolutions on pc, the texture streaming gets fucked somehow after playing a while.
I'm playing on 1920x1200, and it really got ugly. Restarting helped for a short bit.
Did some digging and there's this hack fix involving tedious manual hex editing.
However, these hacked replacement files are also available via the crack scene (yes, omg, the illegality of it all), while Activision and Raven "are looking into it".
So I'm using them for now, waiting for a patch when shit has been gotten together.

1) default, wtf

2) restart, now the *model* textures are fucked :/

3) using hack, this is the way it's supposed to look. still buttugly in places, but yeah

I'm curious if there are also texture streaming issues on console. Anyone playing?
Prolly no issues, because I guess it defaults to 720p on console.

Or less. Not a whole lot of games render at a native 720p anymore these days.

Oh shit... it's out... I thought it would be out early next year or just before Christmas.

Yup, out this week, at least in Yerp.
I think it's released in the Americas a bit later, for some reason.

I've been playing though this game and I find it surprisingly enjoyable so far. The time manipulation stuff isn't just something tacked on, they actually make good use of it throughout the game. No, it's not some silly bullet time button like in FEAR. It's a combination of skills which allows you to manipulate the environment and move stuff. It's a good amount of challenge in the fights where I may actually die from time to time.

Complaints:
  • Texture compression issues (as mentioned).
  • Audio is comparatively quiet compared to other games, I have to turn my volume waaaaay up.
  • Checkpoint system only allows you to start from the last checkpoint, no way to restore a game from a previous save/checkpoint/level. This is upsetting because there are lots of little pickups hidden throughout the maps, and sometimes in a firefight I'd like to clear the area first before searching for items, but then a door closes on me (or get sent through time) and I can't go back to explore. I can't reload to a previous checkpoint to try again.

Just finished it, and tbh, I can't recommend it.
It gets pretty boring and repetitive, and A LOT more could have, and should have made out of the time manipulation powers.
It's a lot like the recent Wolfenstein game.

Doesn't work with Eyefinity and changing my resolution in the registry just resets back to 480x640. Glad I didn't actually pay for it...

Heh...perhaps Raven doesn't seem to be as good with Unreal Technology as they were under id's engines, I dunno, something...typical Activision, another cookie-cutter Raven/Activision FPS game. No matter why id dumped 'em and sided with Zenimax/Bethesda.
