Kidney Stones

Post by brisk »

I remember TNF had these and posted some particularly pleasent pics. I've had them for just under a year now and finally i've been diagnosed properly. I got rushed into hospital about 9 months ago, which at the time I thought was a suspected apendicitus. As it happens, it was actually a kidney stone attack, of which i've had 2 more since.

I woke up at 4am this morning and had another one.. the worst yet. In the past, the attacks passed within about 2/3 hours, but this one didn't clear until around 12 midday.... almost 8 hours of the worst agony imaginable! Anyway, I had an IVU scan a few weeks ago, of which one showed, so hopefully that is now all of them gone. The problem is no regular pain relief can cut it when they occur and it really does drain you, since the pain is so strong and relentless until it clears :(

Anyone else have kidney stone woes? I'm still sore!

the wife gets one about once or twice a year - at this point she has a standing prescription for a few painkillers. i think they generally pass quicker for women, but she's usually OK by the time the painkillers wear off.
did the docs talk to you about dietary changes that might help?

These things sound feckin' terrible and are one if my worst nightmares.

Can they not give you a couple of really strong painkillers to get you through an attack when you have already been diagnosed with the problem?

Maybe they did and you took them for the craic!

My sister had them in college.
Her roommates brought her to the ER when they found her unconscious on the bathroom floor. She had blacked out because of the pain.
Sounds like fun!

They can give you anti-inflammatories and some stuff that, uh, 'opens up your tubes' to ease passage.

Apparently those help a whole lot.
