everytime i try to save a map i get this error: "...maps/finished map files/ghost-factoryNo brushes selected.
for write"
is it possible it could be a bad install or a corrupted file?
even with all brushes selected nothing happens..
HALP!
Try saving the files into a folder that has *no* spaces in the directory and file names. E.g. as a test simply save them on c:\. Note installing Q3A into a folder with spaces was also never recommended, so devs usually use something like D:\Games\Quake3\ (and not some Program Files\Quake III Arena\ folder).
Just to be sure, and you are using File menu, Save as..., not just some key combination, right?
With all the "stupid" user account management that windows has been enforcing more and more (I am guessing in Win7 it's a lot stricter), you may no longer have the right to save files all over the place - just guessing though.

I encountered that using 1.4 on Vista. I searched for a solution and it was suggested that if you turn the auto save feature on (it'll be in preferences) and wait for it to save (preferably set it to one minute so you don't have to wait long) it should save it successfully (check the maps folder for what will probably be "autosave.map" to make sure). Then you can then copy that auto save and rename it whatever you want. I found that if I then opened that renamed auto save I could now actually save my progress on it instead of having to wait for a new auto save to be made.
Might have to do with permissions. Vista/7 doesn't like users editing/saving files that are in certain directories like in "Windows" and "Program Files". So if you installed Q3 into somewhere like Program Files and you are trying to save your map there, it may not like it.
Ideally, you should be creating a developer directory some place else in another directory or on a different partition/hard drive. Alternatively, though not the best solution, is to try running GtkRadiant with Administrator access which will force Windows to allow GtkRadiant to make any changes it wants.
Personally, I'm running Windows 7 x64 and I have GtkRadiant installed in:
C:\Program Files (x86)\GtkRadiant 1.5.0\
ok so im using the autosave function, but my dumbass forgot to make a back up of the most recent one, then when i opened another map and it autosaved over it
now my problem is decompiling, b4 i would put them in ....c/documents/owner...
now i have to actually put it in the gtk folder .. it decompiles just fine but it doesnt show... theres no actual .map file in there..
