Left 4 Dead 2

Post by brisk »

By the sound of my hard drive churning like crazy and the fact I can't even open the steam window, I assume this game is now out and decrypting!

L4D1 was/is by far my fav game of the last few years and i've put a crazy number of hours into it. The demo (inc the play as infected hack) was fun, so any euros up for some hot versus action later?

Ive played the demo and was thoroughly dismayed
and not in an elitist "we dont need a sequel" kinda way, but it was very much not fun.

maybe it was the daylight. maybe it was the lack of tension brought on by the 'lulz lets go shoot things'-characters. maybe it was the unneeded melee items or the fact that theres a special around every corner.

what i do know was that it was quicky deleted off my hdd

My xbox is dead and I can't afford it. Hope you guys enjoy it tho, I'll have to get it later.

Sending the xbox away tonight for repairs, hope it doesn't take forever to get it back.

Just saw the review on gametrailers. The Source engine is really starting to show it's age, isn't it?

maybe its cos it was just co-op. versus is where it's at!

Keeeerist, they've bumped the difficulty a bit, haven't they?
It took us a gratuitously large amount of attempts to clear the Dead Center finale on advanced.

Demo wasn't really my thing but only tried it SP. Source engine looked fine to me, but everything felt very old-fashioned and zombies are, basically lame. I mean, when you're having to make FAST zombies you've kind of admitted you're on to a losing thing.

However, the whole thing gets comedy points for the fact that lots of people who presumably disliked Halo are now basically fighting the Flood...

You've clearly not played much L4D multiplayer.

exactly. co-op is fun for about an hour, but once you discover versus, it's a completely different game.

i played quake 3 competitively for about 7 years. l4d1 gives me the same level of excitement and is the only game since q3 that i took the time to actually get good at. it isn't some random, mindless shooter - you need to strategise literally every single move and plan your attacks/defense long in advance of actually doing them.

play the new 4v4 mode and you'll see what i mean.

as for l4d2, the limited time i've spent with versus so far suggests that it is now MUCH harder for survivors and the new scoring system gives more points on distance than health/medkits available by the time you reach the saferoom. the new special infected are awesome and i've already found loads of sweet spots where certain infected combos will just absolutely punish survivors.

tl;dr: play l4d for versus, not co-op.

Damn good...and a significant step up entertainment-wise from the original (certainly for the SP). Many more tense and satisfying moments. After I killed about 30 zombie fucks in a row with the ninja sword whilst clamoring up an escalator, I popped serious wood. Fantastic.

Only real downside is no Louis!

it's £19.99 (PC version, not that you'd want to play it in any other format) on amazon.co.uk at the moment. *adds to basket*
