charlie (screenwipe, dead set, tvgohome.com) brooker's chirpy, lighthearted news commentary show started yesterday. the pope is the focus of "This Week in Bullshit" and there's an article on how we got blow by blow coverage of some suicidal non-entity in germany while a 10,000 strong peaceful protest in northern ireland went largely unreported.
I was going to watch Newswipe when it was on TV but I read an article written by the presenter about it in which he suggested that it wasn't informative, it was just a bit of a laiugh. Thanks for posting it here cause now I watched it I think he was wrong to write that cause it is informative in a way. Good program and I'll watch it again. It's like "the news you missed". I already knew that news programs were like he said they are but I didn't realise they were quite as bad as that. That bit at the end abiout what not to do and how the news programs do it anyway was insightful...

Big, big Charlie Brooker fan here (he used to write for PC Zone ya know!) and although it seemed dangerously close to The Day Today/Brass Eye at the beginning, it came into it's own in typical Brooker fashion.

kind of,. but with more of an emphasis on bitter contempt than comedy and a considerably smaller budget.
those welsh pics are priceless - i like the way they've concentrated on one of cardiff's classier, more upmarket areas rather than trying to make it look scruffy.
