earbud headphones

Post by Fender »

I usually use over the ear 'phones, but they are a PITA to haul around. I'll be working @ Panera all this week and next. If I have to hear piped in x-mas songs for that entire time I'll go crazy. I like my Sennheisers, but don't know jack squat about ear buds. Anyone have a decent pair they like?

If you're just looking for something as an inexpensive alternative that you won't be using all the time, I'd go with JVC Marshmallows. I have a pair I use with my iPod and I think they're great and somewhere around $20. Very good for blocking out external sounds without you having to crank up your own...

Yeah, that's basically it. Just for the couple times a month when I want to VPN in from a public location.

I'm going to be like that jackass in the DLP vs LCD vs Plasma thread and completely ignore your recommendation.
I walked down to Target and picked up a pair of Denons for $50. They had a pair of Sonys for $25, a pair of Phillips for $30, another Phillips w/ "noise canceling" for $31. I figured screw it, go quality.

Fuckers were a bitch to get open, though.

I have 3 pairs of sony MDR EX71's, which I use for the ipod, and for my gigs. I've taken the stock sony rubber covers off and put shure ones on.

I googled Sony IEM1 instead of MDR EX71... That was the first result...

Ugh... took off the headphones to go home. Feliz Navidad was playing. $50 well spent.

But for something a little more affordable, try these:

Sony and sennheisers always feel skimpy on component quality to me. I own a set of sony cans and have owned a few sound systems by them. Nice but paying over the odds just for branding in most scenarios. Koss seem to give good value for cheap and shure seems to be an excellent mid-range choice. For high-end I dunno... Sony probably pick up quite a bit when you start spending silly money.

Sony's rubber ones are like 30 bucks and are the most comfortable, they never fell out or ended up at a weird angle around my neck.

Shure SE 5 series are great. You can get them heavily discounted off eBay stores for the price of the 310s

Bose. $100, worth every cent. Bose hater? Well, I'm sure you can rapidly locate a dick to suck.

So after a few hours with these I'm pretty happy. They did reveal that the onboard sound on my laptop is quite shitty, though. Lots of static that I didn't hear with a pair of Sony circumaural headphones I have. So now I'm just using my iPod directly instead of hooked up to the notebook and iTunes.

Fucking song is on again. I just can barely hear it over the current (quiet) song on my iPod.

Try skullcandy; http://www.skullcandy.com/

Not as expensive as the Bose. I use the Sony MDREX90LP and its not bad at all. The only gripe I have with earbuds is that the rubber ear pieces are so easy to lose.
