I've read your Beginner's Guide, followed all of its instructions, downloaded all of the patches, mods, maps, etc.
My problem is that I can't find any games for Quake 3 Team Arena. I can find and join Quake 3 games no problem, but whenever I search around for Team Arena games, I usually get somewhere between 0-6 rooms, and all of the rooms that I find/join are populated entirely by bots. I've asked around and troubleshooted this a fair bit, but still nothing.

Team Arena isn't as popular as original Quake 3.
It's possible that the servers you are receiving are all that's available.

Yeah, the servers have disappeared, but I hope to bring back a revival. I've got a fairly nice setup for a TA server, you'll find it here 75.146.8.203 and it should be listed on gamespy as well.Walt Whitman wrote:I've read your Beginner's Guide, followed all of its instructions, downloaded all of the patches, mods, maps, etc.

I loved TA and while it wasn't as popular as the Q3 base, I hope that since today our machines are more godlike and the price is cheap, we can enjoy some old school fraggin'
Tell everyone you know, the server is here to stay. That's why I called it the "Last Refuge", LOL.

Re: Need help with Q3 Team Arena
I'll have to check it out.
Re: Need help with Q3 Team Arena
I should really get some scheduled events. Given so few TA players (or maybe most just think all the public servers are gone), everyone just has an expansion pack sitting in their Q3 folder not doing anything. I think it would be good fun, just need to find a good place to gather everyone up for an invite.
I still play a lot of vanilla CTF on the public servers (still easy to find full servers) and it's funny that other people complain about the same old maps and weapons, they have no idea that TA even exist.

Re: Need help with Q3 Team Arena
I always wondered what it would take for me to want to recover my account after the forum crash. Congrats, knightmb, even if I managed to lose the old one because my e-mail address has changed. Oops, now I have an underscore.
Scheduled events, probably best. I've recently managed to play TA a few times a year with family against the bots so I'm sure I've progressed to "really sucks" instead of just "sucks."
"All Your Base..." was a hoot. I still remember you showing up on the hood of the truck for a drive by. Now all we need around here to make the place feel like home is a "Coyote's Revenge" soft-core porn thread....

Re: Need help with Q3 Team Arena
Good to see you again as well.
Yeah, between life and kids and other games, it's been hectic. To this day, I still get e-mails from people about quake III maps, it's amazing to me. Now that everyone has god-like hardware compared to last century, it's nice to worry less about the r_speeds and more about detail.
I'm working on q3 maps again to refresh myself and wow have things come along. I opened up some old maps in the gtkradiant editor and was impressed on what I could finally fix, LOL. Gone are the buggy days of Q3Radiant I suppose, but it's nice to take a fresh look at things and do that which is so much fun for creativity.
I'm helping with map reviews over at http://lvlworld.com/ to see how things have progressed over so many years and what the new generation of map makers are producing.
As far as Q3 Team Arena, I've been working out schedules and such so that games can be played when hopefully everyone has the least amount of distractions (from kids, school, work, wife/husband, etc.) Even going to offer prizes to spice things up (though, you won't win a car from any of these, LOL). I want it to be fun and exciting, but not so serious that the losing team will just get pissed off and never come back.
I've got a fast machine (by q3 standards) and a fast internet pipe for it with auto download and everything enabled so people won't have to hunt around for any custom maps. The server runs public 24/7, but for events of course things will be a little different for those players that participate.
