Countries who fail at enforcing UN sanctions could be punished themselves? The article insists on using the oil for food programme as an example, but doesn't this mean the US may have to finally give the international community some space regarding the Israel/Palestine issues? You know, instead of ignoring the UN altogether?

a defining attribute of a government is that it has a monopoly on the legitimate exercise of violence...

I will give you a reply i thought through, if you give me one first about why the UN should be disbanded. We could have a whole discussion about it!

I'm perfectly happy talking about this, but i cant be arsed to be the first one to think of something intelligent seeing as you changed the subject of the thread.

If you are talking about the oil for food program, i suggest you read up on how much money is being thrown away in Iraq at the moment, and how it makes the oil for food scandal look like fucking peanuts. By your logic, shouldn't that mean the US goverment and the CPA should be disbanded as well, forthwith?

But wait, hang on, what would happen if you did that? About the same thing as what would happen on a much larger scale when you'd disband the UN, perhaps?
