there seems to be a bit of a difference between
root:~# rm -R .
and
root:~# rm -R /

It was an innocent typo. I meant to delete the directory, but my finger reached for the slash instead.

The system hung for five seconds before I looked backed and realized the error of my ways. I immediately pressed Ctrl-C. But... the damage was done.
I can't even use ls anymore.

Slackware needs to impliment the "ARE YOU REALLY THAT MUCH OF A FUCKING IDIOT THAT YOU WANT TO DELETE THE WHOLE FUCKING FILE SYSTEM, SHITHEAD? (Y/N)" prompt.

all well, it's a fresh install I made yesterday. just a few hours loss.
first thing I'll do on the next install is
alias rm "rm -i"
