Just got LASIK...
Just got LASIK...
So I had surgery today on my eyeballs. It's pretty great. I'm 23 and I first got glasses in 1st grade and contacts in 4th grade. I was -7.50 in both eyes. But now I should be 20/20 or better, even though its still a little blury from the surgery. I can't wait till tomorrow when I should be 95% healed up. This should improve the quality of my life so much. I'll finally be able to see my feet in the shower (or my dick for that matter).

Good for you!! Let us know how it turns out.

How much did it cost? Do you see halos around lights at night?

Re: Just got LASIK...
Was it uncomfortable in any way when they slit off the top of the cornea and flipped it over? The idea of that part of the process has me all creeped out.
I'm pretty blind as well (not as bad) but have been scared to do Lasik.

My mother had it, described it as "weird".
Apparently my stepdad watched the whole process on a monitor. That would be uncomfortable for sure.

Though I am a bit frightened by the procedure, I hope to do it the day my vision finally stabilizes.
Re: Just got LASIK...
I've been saying I am going to do it for the last 10 years but that being said I'm going to get it done this spring when it will be partially covered under the work heath plan.

g/f had it done about 7 months ago and couldn't be happier.
Re: Just got LASIK...
It cost just under two grand. No halos. They didn't mention that I would see any, so I'm not expecting any.Cooldown wrote:How much did it cost? Do you see halos around lights at night?
Re: Just got LASIK...
It wasn't really uncomfortable at any time (could have been the valiums they gave me). They put so many drops in your eyes to numb you that you don't feel anything. You just see and hear everything. Thats why its kinda wierd. Kinda like I would imagine it to be if aliens abducted me and started perfoming tests on my eyes.obsidian wrote:Was it uncomfortable in any way when they slit off the top of the cornea and flipped it over? Re: Just got LASIK...
how can perfect vision NOT be on the top of your "to do" list?
Re: Just got LASIK...
Meh, I'll see tomorrow.
Re: Just got LASIK...
My only concern is the long term effects... what happens 20, 30 or 40 yrs after you've had the surgery?
Everyone I've spoken to raves about it but there are still long term questions that needs answering for me... what do you guys think?

Our understanding of the eye, our technology, and our surgical procedures are only going to get better as time goes on. So if they can fix me now, I'm sure they can fix me later...blowsy wrote:My only concern is the long term effects... what happens 20, 30 or 40 yrs after you've had the surgery?

And it tends to make you need reading glasses sooner. For me I'd end up needing bifocals before I'm 40.

reading glasses?
I'm sure dumping the 12-lb cokebottles previously crushing his nose full-time for the rest of his life is well worth having to spend an hour a night in some flimsy reading goggles, fuckster.
seriously, though, it seems to exemplify the miracle of modern day surgery--after discussing with a few friends who's fathers have had the procedure (one guy more than 10 years ago--didn't know they were doing it that long ago? Well neither did I, you ignorant penile-proboscises), my missus had lasik about a year ago and after one night's mild discomfort (they gave her ativan and numbing drops), she could see better than with her last prescription contacts less than 24 hours later.

Re: Just got LASIK...
i had a physics prof who worked with lasers and was rabidly against the process - he was convinced that later in life the cells that control water pressure in your eyeballs (pallisade cells?) would die early and you'd be fucked. seems those cells don't regenerate or something. can't remember the details as i heard that rant about 8 years ago, but you're not the only one with a wait-and-see attitude on this.blowsy wrote:My only concern is the long term effects... what happens 20, 30 or 40 yrs after you've had the surgery?

Re: Just got LASIK...
takes balls risking a surgery like that even with their near perfect rate of success... I can't imagine going in there and coming out blind! fuck compensation at that point
