Well, its time to take that next step with console content..

yeah... THAT STEP. Bungie is now asking for your cash to get a couple of extra maps. Not a whole new game, not a few new game modes, but MAPS. You remember doing that with about 1232100213 maps Epic released for free yeah?
Well, they will be available via retail and live...

I don't play X-Box live Halo 2 for some reason, i just didn't enjoy it as much as the first, mainly because of the weapons. But damn, pay $19.99 for 9 maps? No thanks.

That is just for people who don't have Xbox live. And someone would just be stupid to pay that, unless they had absolutely NO way of getting an xbox online and using those freebie trials.
There are probably very few people that will be paying that.
edit: nm, after reading a bit more I see that bungie has just dug their own grave and microsoft is putting flowers on the headstone.

Ubi already did this with Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow for XBox.
I think it's despicable, but when you take in to consideration that a lot of XBox users will just soak up the cost as a matter of course, no questions asked, it's going to be "successful".
My fear is what does this mean in the long run for the rest of us?

As PC-Users, very little... I can't see a shift in PC-Game developers charging for content-creation tools or extra media they put out.
However for the consoles? It's interesting... the last few generations of consoles have been hyped as reaching the point where you can create, edit and download new content just like the PC is capable of... only the reality is that now it's here, it's just not the same, things aren't free, and it doesn't look like it's going to mean a better deal for gamers.
A real shame.

that's really shady. first we spend the money for the xbox to play halo2. then we have to buy halo2. you wanna play online? oh- well that's $9.99 a month. oh- and you want more maps to play with your friends? $19.99, please.
Xbox Hardware: $199.99
Halo 2: $49.99
Xbox Live Package: $79.99
Xbox Live Per Month: $9.99
Extra Maps: $19.99
----------
Grand Total: $359.95
so essentially, people who are wanting to start fresh and play Halo 2 online with their buddies on the new map Containment will have to spend more than 350 bucks. isn't it bad enough to have to buy the equipment, the subscription, and the game?

didnt microcock do this already with..uh.. mechassault or summat?
fucking gay i tells you. the whole point of the subscription according to microsoft was to pay for servermaintainance, bandiwidth and free downloadable content
and whats worse, there are people who are actually paying to download 3 extra maps *which were prolly made during the initial development anyways*

Aye, thats the problem. Paid for content splits the community. Not everybody will have it, so not everybody can play.
Look at Team Arena, great game but not for retail. If you wanted to play it, you had to buy it, and that just wasn't an option for most people. So, you had the community split.
If TA was free, then everybody could of played. IMHO, I feel it should of been a free upgrade to QUAKE 3. I.E. Not a mod, but a whole update to Quake 3, so everytime you played Quake 3, you played TA as well.

Well said. I think this is a pathetic idea. I hope this kind of shit does divide the community to the point that nobody plays anymore and thousands of people cancel their XBox Live service. :icon19:o'dium wrote:Aye, thats the problem. I wonder if you can warez them...

They said that it will all be free by summertime anyways so not a big deal too much.
Didn't you guys read the update? http://www.bungie.net/News/TopStory.asp ... &p=2747963

Did you read the whole statement by bungie at all?
By the end of july or so, all 9 maps will be available for free download, due to mountain dew helping them out (with 2 of the original 4 being released are free anyway).
The only cost they put on there for the extra maps is for bandwidth, and the CD's are for people without Live.
Don't whine about having to pay for something when it's coming out in a few months for free anyways.
