I ain't gettin' no speeding tickets
Because I just ordered this:

Yeah, it's too damn expensive, and my wife is pissed, but it's cheaper by far than a single fat ticket.

Yeah, he's clearly talking about speeding in traffic, because nowhere in america can you find an open stretch of road to go fast.Eraser wrote:You could also just stick to the speed limits.
And no offense, but if you plan on getting a "fat ticket", then you're a moron for driving unsafely in public traffic.

Gimme a break, I don't ride like a retard in traffic, I don't have a deathwish. The reason I want this is that I rarely go the speed limit, but I also rarely exceed it by more than 15mph in regular riding. Going 60 in a 45 is RIDICULOUSLY easy to do, because by the time I shift into 2nd gear (without even really getting on it), I'm already speeding.Eraser wrote:You could also just stick to the speed limits.

I only really get after it on back roads and on the highway.
FFS Eraser, what are you, 80? Go sit in your rocking chair Pops.

That's not true at all. Lots of long back roads all over the place in the States to cut loose. I can think of 3 roads in particular outside of Lancaster I've opened up cars on, but...like you have to watch out for the Amish. Horses don't like ya blasting by them at 90mph. :icon25:sys0p wrote:

I always preferred to just use that throttle a bit more in that case :icon26:Nightshade wrote:Because I just ordered this:

Worst ticket I ever got was 100 km/h in a 50 km/h zone (inner city), almost a year ago.
Haven't gotten a single one since then, but if you've got the money to drive fast, more power to you.
Today's speed limits are MADE to provoke speeding. They have nothing, NOTHING to do with safety.
Speeding tickets are a major source of income for the city, at least where I live.

Done that twice already. If I'm hauling ass and the cop's going the other way, I'm not stopping.inolen wrote:I always preferred to just use that throttle a bit more in that case :icon26:Nightshade wrote:Because I just ordered this:

Radar detectors are illegal in Virginia (one or two other states as well, can't remember which) and on military bases. How effective the detector is depends on what sort of radar the cop's using. If it's instant-on the only way to avoid getting zapped is if the detector picks up the gun clocking cars ahead of you. Many cops just cruise around with their guns on, which makes it dead easy to pick them up.werldhed wrote:I was going to make a thread asking how effective radar detectors are. I've considered getting one, but I don't often speed enough to need it all the time.
Are they almost 100% effective? Can you get busted if the cop sees that you have one? Does it warn you in enough time to slow down? etc...
As shaft said, the Valentine V1 is another fantastic detector. I read a lot of comparisons, and the Escort 8500-X50 is comparable in most categories, and edges past the V1 in one or two. Depends on which reviews you read. The main reason I went with the Escort is that the V1 requires a couple extra gadgets to use it on a bike.
One of the nice things about this kit is that it comes with the Radar Screamer. It's a 108dB (read:really fucking loud) piezoelectric buzzer that you'll DEFINITELY hear over the road and wind noise. Another option is a wireless LED indicator that mounts on your helmet in your field of view. It's more expensive, and again requires another gadget to use.
I have a friend that swears by his $40 detector for his car. He thinks that the chance of getting nailed by instant-on doesn't make the price of the detector I'm getting worth it. I'd agree with him if I was only going to use it in my car. I'll be able to easily swap mine between car and bike.
edit: typos are of the devil

Well maybe where you live but here in Houston, quite frankly Im a bit frightened at how amazingly shitty some people drive. I couldnt imagine what would happen if they increased the speed limit. Sometimes it doesnt matter how skilled a driver you are, noobs will be trying to bring you down right and left.

Yes, but that's not all.
I'm just tired of driving like a slug through obvious 'traps' - long stretches of straight road with a 50 km/h speed limit. Everybody knows you could go faster, and most people do. But if you don't want to get a speeding ticket every month, you better don't do it.
Nowadays they are even implementing more and more 'dynamic' speed limits on the autobahn. Electronic signs that are supposed to optimize traffic flow. Turns out they do nothing to optimize anything, they're just a pain in the ass and are constantly malfunctioning on top of that.
I'd be driving much faster if I wasn't on 'driving probation'. If they catch me again within another year going more than 20 km/h over the speed limit, they can suspend my license for 3 months. (At least that's what I heard. Maybe it's just a rumor to slow me down?) Already had it suspended for one month, and it sucked.

It looks like you have no choice here, so you'll have to suck it up and follow the speed limits.
