Actiontec DSL Modem

Post by Underpants? »

anyone played with the stripped-down version of linux on these filthy whores? I'm looking, in particular for one file that would have the deny by ip address restriction on web access.
thanks.in.advance.

yeah I know LOL @ peasants who use DSL. Everyone should have a mother fucking OC12 to their house. LOL, if you don't.
Ideally, I'd like to script something like
telnet 192.168.0.1
adam12
adam12
echo deny tcp host 192.168.0.2 any eq www > /etc/whateverFuckingFileitIs
echo 8192 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/netfilter/ip_conntrack_max
echo 3600 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/netfilter/ip_conntrack_tcp_timeout_established
echo 60 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/netfilter/ip_conntrack_tcp_timeout_close_wait

then whatever commands that would equate to cisco's 'write mem' and 'reload,' if applicable.

What's wrong with DSL? The name of the modem is just funny, lol.

yep free with service, and it's basically one of two layers on the network. Out of box, I want all of them to have the config where ....0.2 is the firewall, and there will be zero tcp port 80 access from it. I hope that's a better, more detailed statement?
and OLO actiontec. what did you expect from a company called qwest?

yeah, i know what company you got that from - ugh, i don't like qwest though, they're a bunch of assholes.

anyhoot, i use the DDWRT firmware (latest stable) and it has been rock solid and adds a ton of features.

most notable, and ones i am using are:
  • Chillispot Hotspot portal
    Multiple Vlans
    QOS bandwidth management
the ability to adjust the xmit power of your router is great too enabling you to get the most out of it. depending on the version of your WRT54XX you can even overclock it (not done this). you can also run custom scripts just like you want to do on your actiontec. i'm using my old dlink as an access point for my hotspot - testing for my friend's dad's dental biz in scottsdale.

this is good shit. i've even donated $40 to the firmware dev. not a boatload of $, but worth every penny imo.

i've found a couple of links, although you have probably seen these, regarding hacking your actiontec:

lol, the piece of shit dropped the DSL auth, wireless and acl settings upon a save and reset. Coincidence, I reckon--there's been some weather hereabouts.

No worries, more of a rant than anything I reckon.
Now what? Disable wireless and nat and hooker up a real wireless gateway. :(

Well I'll be on cable Sunday.
I'll have to see what it's going to be like this time.

oh, well I did upgrade with the modded firmware confs, and even after that, command-line changes seemed to effect stability, so I stopped grinding on it and switched to plan B--spend money. The non-wireless rtg7xx seemed to handle the changes less manically, but I'm not patient enough to see it through.

Are there any router/adsl modem combos around, or is it all seperate? (If it was from linksys it would be a +++) :paranoid:

possibly--it seems to be popular in Australia.
