ATI had a good run with their 9200, 9600, 9700, 9800 chips, but lately they're just as shit as they were before.

Same thing will happen with AMD when Intel gets Core2 running.

They might as well name their new company "2nd Best Inc."

Good luck AMD, everyone knows ATIs and VIAs chipsets are much better than NVidias.

The next couple of years will be messy. ATI's motherboard chipsets already only support AMD but the question really becomes what will happen to Nvidia's chipset business? I suppose they could still move forward as always given there will always be consumers who don't want ATI, but as far as optimizations, AMD/ATI will probably be more 'compatable' eventually. I'm sure there is a case to be made for AMD to avoid creating any dependancies between the two sides of that story, but the temptation will be great.

EXPLAIN!!111

After going through a 7000, 9200, and 9550, I decided to make the move to Nvidia, especially after the latter two churned a death that lasted a year. GeForce has been nothing but quality and performance, especially with the new Forceware drivers that support dual-core CPUs. Prey on 1024x768 will all fx enabled :p

AMD can have ATI for all I care.

:icon14: AMD are a great company, surely this will allow AMD and ATI hardware to work together better for more performance.

Forceware drivers, yup dual-core plus the same overclocking ability as before. For example, before the dual-core drivers, KOTOR II would barely run. The menus were incredibly slow and bugged up and you couldn't even run the game. After the drivers, all games working perfectly and since they're optimized for dual-core, a nice performance increase :D

I believe they're called Forceware 91.31, I'm not sure.

I had a 9800 Pro 256MB once, it crapped ot within a year so I returned it to newegg for a new one, thankfully they had none so they gave me a cash refund. I then bought a BFG 6800GT and it hasn't failed me yet. I honestly don't care too much about the purchase, as I am an nVIDIA man and will prolly remain so for a very long time.

My 9200 and 9550 both lasted almost a year before they crapped out. Nice little routine that ATi cards have :icon14:

My only hope is that AMD processors will still work with nVIDIA chipsets and graphics cards as well and that this isn't a move to push nVIDIA out of computers with AMD processors.

Why on earth would they do that?

ATM I have a 9800XT and it rocks. I did have some problems with Prey, but using older drivers seemed to work great. Didn't affect any other games. I hope this move proves to be a good thing because I'm an AMD Fanboi myslef and my ATI has been trully awsome. So my comment on changing to Nvidia my have been a little hasty.

We'll see in the months ahead.

Well I'm not quite sure bitWise, but I'm sure it would be possible to make some form of feature that would only work on AMD computers with ATi cards or chipsets, it might not have any actual performance bearing, but it still could happen. I still cannot comprehend why people get pissy when I say that I don't like ATI, or any other person. I have had bad ATI experiences and have had good experiences with nVIDIA so I buy nVIDIA. If you have had bad nVIDIA experiences and good ATI experiences thus you buy ATI then I honestly don't care, I just can't understand why some people get up in arms when I share my experience and tell that I am an nVIDIA person, because graphics cards are quite expensive and I perfer to spend my money on things I have good experiences with.
