We need to actually play!

Post by Foo »

All these maps coming off the production line, and noone ever gets to play them..

Don't any of you have an interest in taking some of these and playing a few rounds to evaluate them, see what makes them tick, what cool shit the author came up with or find some drawbacks you'll need to remember to avoid when making your own levels?

If anyone's up for this let me know, it's near impossible to get people to play custom maps it seems and if it won't even happen amongs the people who are creating them...... well, we're fucked.

If i'm on (usually means i have the time), and someone suggests it (I'm not one to start things), and they get their shit together correctly (A standard post consisting of dl link to map, server ip and time) than I will usually be there.

Same story as everyone, yeah.

Therein lies half the problem. Getting peeps together is a pain in the ass.

I think getting someone fast to server us is the problem

We had a quality euro server up and going for a few months, but I had to drop away for university work and when I came back it was gone.

We've got numerous hosts willing in the US and euro.

It won't work! Remember this? I pimped it everywhere, it was on the frontpage of every major site. I rented a server, sponsered Q4euro and how many maps were submitted? One, that's fucking it.

Good luck on this, but even if wide news coverage, constant pimping, money and a team behind it can't make it work I doubt this will work out period.

That's because q4 sucks. :P

I don't know about "suck". But the q3 servers I have up get more traffic than the q4 servers, for sure.

A server that's constantly on will not get as much traffic as it's based on coincidence.
I think Foo means a server that can switch between a normal rotation and a custom map rotation on request with preselected times and maps or just one that gets started only when we are going to play.

I'm always up for a game on any custom map. I can host (6/0.8 Mbit Netherlands) a decent server. I prefer CPMA in any case because it's playable for wide range of pings, unlike OSP's useless netcode. :x
