Floor standing speakers...

Post by Canis »

What are some good recommendations for a pair of floor-standing speakers that are ~100watts and are priced between $200 and $500 for the pair?

Some Polk and Infinity speakers in that range here:

Crutchfield is probably not the cheapest, though.

yeah, i was going to say that... you could probably pick up some JBL northridge series floor standers for that price.
E60's or E80's should make you happy for the money.
I've never been dissapointed with JBL speakers. my JBL sub has been kicking hard for 7 years now.

I've heard good things about JBL. I currently have a pair of Fisher 15" beasts (model STV-430) but they're rather bulky and I want to at some point replace them with something of pretty good quality. I'm not sure how these other speakers measure up to my current ones in terms of quality, because there's very little information about these fisher speakers out there.

Both Polk and Infinity are really good speakers. If I had the cash to blow, I'd probably have Infinity all around. Infinity speakers are known for crisp, clean highs and accurate, tight bass.

Hmmm....does anyone know how the fisher speakers compare? I'd preferrably like to go for the better option, and if I'd be replacing my current ones with inferior speakers, then I'd obviously pass, but if fisher speakers are crappy in comparison then I'll look into these other options. Are there any specific models of Polk or Infinity that are well known?

goto a stereo shop and use their listen room... thats what its there for.
once you get out of the "crap sector" all loudspeakers are pretty much the same, it mainly boils down to what your ear likes and doesnt like... the best thing you can do is just go listen to some speakers and see what appeals to you, then find them online for cheaper ;)
