Smoothing text on LCDs?
How is this done? I remember a link to Microsoft's site for this or something.

Actually it does sometimes affect game text. I was playing motorcross madness 2 and with cleartype enabled the text was smudged out. Disabling it returned it back to normal.
btw, you're prolly talkin about this app, it adds a few extras in addition to the cleartype functionality built-into xp.

Forgive my ignorance, but why?
*turns off ClearType*
Oh, ow! Damn...
I switched from a CRT to a LCD in the last few months and never bothered to look back at non-ClearType text until a moment ago. My guess is it has something to do with the way the monitor refreshes? I've always noticed how stuff jitters when I move windows around and whatnot. And checker-patterned mesh images get all funky when moved.

Kind of funny.
The last time I played around ClearType was with my old LCD, which used an analog connection. Cleartype looked like crap on it.
Speed ahead to today, when I decided to play around with it again thanks to this thread. The effect is superb on my Dell 2001FPW using digital connection.
I guess the connection type does matter.

Dunno why, but I found it extremely funny that it parsed this as an email link.Freakaloin wrote:rofl@themoron...pathetic...scourge34 wrote:I have both and I like my LCD better. You lose.Freakaloin wrote:get a crt monitor...they r better...
Probably because I'm at work 2.5 hours earlier than normal and have only had 1 cup of coffee. :s
