Steven Spielberg and Mark Burnett are putting on a reality show called "On the Lot," in which contestants compete to make the best movie. The winner will get a studio dealat DreamWorks. Anyway, the cool part is that --
A nationwide search, with details yet to be determined, will be conducted to find 16 finalists, FOX said. The group will be brought to Hollywood, divided into teams, then given the task of producing one short film each week.
Each weekly project will reflect a different genre, ranging from comedy to drama to horror, and professional writers, actors and crew will be made available, the network said.
"If the contestants are resourceful enough, they may even be able to land Hollywood celebrities to star in their films," according to FOX.
So instead of gay little tribe challenges, overwrought alliance-forming and hackneyed backstabbing among the contestants, we might instead get to see some actual quality output from a reality show -- namely interesting short films possibly even featuring people we've heard of.
It has promise, but I'm sure it will fall into the same rhythm as other reality shows. Before every commercial they will give a voiced-over preview of what is to come later, and after every commercial will be a voiced-over recap of what has happened thus far. A few off-to-the-side video journals and a bit of tension as teams crunch to get things done, with the show conveniently leaving out the stuff in between and simply showing the team with the final product against all odds.
I'll watch it.

i mean, i remember way back when terminator 2 was released, i was so excited and when i watched it i think i got my 1st hard on
now its like.....
war of the worlds, yeeeeeeeey
where you watch it and go 'hey, that was pretty cool'
but then i turn around and watch a film like 'football factory' thinking it to be utter toss where instead it earns a place in my DVD collection as a masterpiece
