Oblivion spoilers
Kay, the game is out and it's better than sliced bread, Quake 4 and DooM 3 even if they were all formed up into some kind of mutant cluib sandwich.
Tips, tricks, cheats and spoilers, then.
Tips
- Quicksave (F5) before attempting to pick a lock or do anything that could land you in jail/dead. If things don't go according to plan, Quickload (F9) and try again.
Tricks
- In the Arena, you can jump up some of the angled blocks near the gates to escape an opponent. From there, you can finish them with magic. This is handy for the unfair fights like the 3-on-1 lizard fest, but not so good for the opponents with bows :lightbulb:
Cheats
- Fucked if I know any...
Spoilers
- Buy your first house for 2000 gold from the Office of Imperial Commerce in the Market District of Imperial City. It's a crappy shack on the waterfront with nothing but a bed, but you can buy storage units from one of the guys in 3 Brothers Trade Goods, again in the Market District.
- To join the Thieves guild, first talk to a beggar in imperial city, and get their disposition up as high as it will go. You'll have to bribe them. They'll mark a spot on your map you need to go to at midnight. Once you've done the entry quest, you can fence stolen items to Ongar the World Weary in Brumar

Dunno. One of the athlon 64 bit chips, a geforce 6 something and a gig of ram.
I always forget my specs. I do remember I've got RAID, cause the oblivion loading screens are too quick to read, which is really dumb.
EDIT: RESEARCH PREVAILS
3000+ Athlon 64.
Geforce 6600 256Mb.
1Gb RAM.
A8N-SLi Deluxe mobo.
Runs fine. Runs like shit if I put 'shadows on grass' on.
There's a nice tweak for nvidia to reduce the mouse lag a whole lot, too.

Notice a little bit of mouse lag randomly, but its nothing huge, tho id like to get rid of it.
[size=75][i]I once had a glass of milk.
It curdled, and then I couldn't drink it. So I mixed it with some water, and it was alright again.
I am now sick.

Then get the 'coolbits reg tweak' from guru3d
Then most importantly, in nvidia control panel go to 'advanced 3d properties' and change 'max frames to render ahead' to 0.
I think it's the last step that really does anything.

handy little text file for some extra tweaks or fixes, if anyone has probs on the PC version.
is that an oblivion only tweak or does that increase your card's performance overall?Foo wrote: Then most importantly, in nvidia control panel go to 'advanced 3d properties' and change 'max frames to render ahead' to 0.

Oh, awesome. :icon14:vesp wrote:handy little text file for some extra tweaks or fixes, if anyone has probs on the PC version.
I have no evidence to back this up, but I think the 'max frames to render ahead' setting is designed for games or situations where there isn't time-based user input... and what's happened is that the Direct3D implementation for Oblivion just hasn't taken the setting into account. I think the game should be setting the render ahead thing to 0 itself, but it's not doing so.MKJ wrote:is that an oblivion only tweak or does that increase your card's performance overall?Foo wrote: Then most importantly, in nvidia control panel go to 'advanced 3d properties' and change 'max frames to render ahead' to 0.
Hence, it should only be an issue if it's been accidentally overlooked in a games development. Can't really hurt to turn it off though, I doubt there's many times when it's useful to FPS gamers.
Anyway, ill informed ramblings aside, it produced a very noticeable improvement to my game
Yeah, the official forums are agonizingly slow and pretty useless. Only half functioning too - i tried to register at one point because it wouldn't let me use the search function if i didn't :icon27:, but it wouldn't send me a confirmation email. :icon27:
Then, after showing much patience and resilience i finally found what i was looking for - but the thread had high levels of bullshit, typed by what must have been a flock of 12 year drooling mongs.

Guys im stuck with the thiefs guild... I managed to get the first task, to go steal the diary before the other 2 do, and i got into Amantius Allectus's house, but... now what? The most I can do is go upstairs, get told to get the fuck out, steal BOTH their keys, come downstairs and find the "wooden door" still wont open...?
What gives?
What gives?
its in the dresser downstairs. follow the green marker
either that or first get some more info (maybe it needs a trigger) - theres a begger on the other side of the district who will tell you where the dude lives.
best hurry up foo or the whore will beat you to it

Yeah i went there, opened it, nothing was there... just random crap. Picked it all up, but the green marker was still there.I waited for about a week outside, but never got the message that she beat me to it, so i just said fuck it and went back to my last save which was 2 hours before
Oh well, at least this time ill do it right...
