Now I am talking brass ornaments and you know what I mean, the sort of stuff you find here
Probably use "Brasso" or other metal polishes, but I am just wondering if you people who do polish it very often have considered the long term professional/specialized solution. Usually a chemical bath followed by a buff machine polish them lacquer application.
In my experience, I'd keep them unlaquered and just polish them every once and a while. Although, I'm basing this on my experience with brass instruments, which tend to be handled often. Lacquer will chip and pit, and then you'll end up with a nastier job than a quick polish.
So, grain of salt, but I'd stay away from laquering.

agreed laquer looks nice when its first done, but it ages, turns yellow and looks crap.
Brasso, a pair of gloves ( to keep the green shit off your hands) and you're set.

Thanks all for the responses, I'd really like to know how long until this lacquer goes off and yellows?
Polish it first with Brasso. After you get the shine you want, coat it with floor wax. Mop and Glow works best. The shine will last much longer. When its time to repolish it, use ammonia to strip the wax.
