Help on quake3, new to macs

I just installed quake3 on my new powermac g5, but the graphics are screwed up. Buttons disappear when i move my mouse over them and everything is twisted basically. Whats the problem?

How did you install the program?

i downloaded the .toast and executed it on os 9, but i dont think thats teh problem. Again the game works fine but the graphics are messed up i tried the newest point release but i get error messages when i try to open it.
