Purely hypothetical: HK USP vs. Walther P99

Both are top-of-the-line guns, both are reportedly very accurate and reliable, but the Walther looks so much more comfortable to hold in your hand while the USP seems to be much more popular.
Edit:
We have very strict gun control laws over here, and I'm glad we have them. Nevertheless, I'm secretly a huge gun nut and can spend hours reading about guns.

Are personal handguns legal in deutschland?

no
edit: Unless you get a hunting license. Then you can own any handgun (but no more than 2) and hunting rifles (as many as you want, no semi-automatic rifles though. break-open and bolt-action only). Uzis and everything else that's full auto is WAY off limits.

Fire each of them if you can, and get the .40 if you go with the Walther. I'd get the HK in .45. Anything less indicates you're a complete fag0t.

both are said to be most precise and reliable in 9mm afaik?
why is a bigger caliber so important?

Would you rather have to shoot an attacker 5 or 6 times or only once? The .45 ACP is one of the best rounds out there when it comes to knock-down power. 9mms also tend to over-penetrate, so if you're using it inside you have a better chance of shooting through the thug and into little Petra in the next room.

I heard knock-down power was a myth?
Supposedly if a bullet had the strength to knock somebody down, it would knock the shooter down as well. (because of actio=reactio and all that jazz)

Absolutely not, knock-down power is very real, and very important. Also, yes, the energies of the initial shot and the impact are close to equal (at relatively short distances) but recall that the pistol uses that energy to eject the shell casing and load another round. The springs in the weapon dissipate the energy.

Are you licensed, Splish?

Of course not. To get a hunting license you have to be crime-free for at least 3 generations and spend a fortune in time and money on the courses afaik. You get the idea.
A friend of my dad's was a hunter and that's how I got to shoot a few guns some years back but that's about it.

No I’ll pass, since the only experience with guns I have is pellet guns when I was a kid and CS:S

Serious question: why the fuck would you hunt with a handgun?
Posted: Fri Feb 10, 2006 11:00 pm
by SplishSplash
You're not supposed to hunt with a handgun.
You are allowed to have 2 for the purpose of killing animals that you have wounded with your rifle (you fucked up).
Also for hunting badgers, foxes, bunnies and everything else that you hunt by sending your dog into a hole and wait for your prey to come out of said hole.
Edit: That's what Dachshunds are for. Dachshund = german for "Badgerdog", used for hunting badgers.
Edit 2: Also trapping.
