Anyone here use hard-drive cooling fans?
Anyone here use hard-drive cooling fans?
Is it worth it, for the lifespan of my SATA drive, to get one of those cooling fan units that you attach to it?
I've put together my case such that there is pretty good airflow through it, but the drive itself is in an area that doesn't get much airflow.

I do, I have an old box hooked up to my network, a raid of 20 20gb drives, they are ANCIENT (back when 5400rpm was fast), and I had 25 but 5 overheated and broke so I now have fans on every other hdd
Why not?
Jenny: lol, i'm not changing the whole harddrive directory structure for a mod. Do it proper like other mods please.

Any chance of posting a pic of how that setup looks? What are you mounting the drives on?plained wrote:i'd try and place the drive in the airflow path. i usually stand my drives up on a thin side so the two large sides are available to be cooled.
ive not had any failed drives.
i doent like hearing any fans at all thats why i do it.
