Quake expansions?

Post by I cant spell u »

Back in the day I used to have quake 2 and the reckoning expansion and quake 64, I lost those games and so I was gonna buy quake 1, 2 and 3. (my comp sucks so no q4). And I was wondering if the expansion packs for quake's 1 through 3 were any good and worth buying.

all of them are worth it IMO, except for maybe Quake 3 Team Arena, however, that one comes "bundled" with Quake 3 Arena itself in the Quake 3 Gold package for cheap, which is all you can get these days I reckon.

And it's not as if Team Arena is so bad, it's actually quite good IMO, but there's bloody no one to play it against online. So unless you've got some friends to play it with, or enjoy bot matches, Team Arena is absolutely great, but there's barely any servers running it anymore. A real shame.

Do people still play the quake 2 and quake 1 expansions online, thats if they had new deathmatch maps in them of course.

I know the Q2 expansions have new deathmatch maps but I doubt they're played online a lot. However, unlike Team Arena, both the Quake 1 and Quake 2 expansions are mainly aimed at new single player campaigns with plenty of new stuff to enjoy. Ground Zero (the 2nd Q2 expansion) is especially good.

One of the unofficial expansions for Quake, Abyss of Pandemonium, included some multiplayer stuff, but it's not played nowadays.
Shame, as I remember one of the maps in particular being awesome.
