Economics Question About Quake4
Economics Question About Quake4
O.K.
I'm currently learning economics.
So here is my question for practical situation.
If a gamer boy were to steal a quake4 copy from a local PC shop near his house, can this damage developer and publisher or simply that poor shop?
Thanks. :icon34:

afaik they resell -- buy x units from the publisher, and resell them with markup. this is how almost every shop runs.busetibi wrote:ive never worked in a shop, so i could be wrong.
wouldnt the shop be selling the game on consignment?
as in....
shop keeper pays the distributor/wholesaler when he sells the game
so if a game is stolen, shop keeper still has to pay distributor/wholesaler?
shop keeper loses.
edit: many shops also have theft insurance, but if you steal stuff undetected they can't claim it on simply "missing items" -- usually it's if someone breaks in during the night and steals stuff that way

The awnser is that it hurts the consumer. YOU. Because of theft is taken into account in most stores that know what they are doing and theft is viewed as basicly a bill that needs to be paid so that would be taken into concideration when pricing the item. Were this a perfect world free of theft the item would probably cost less to begin with. So the boy is actualy fucking himself along with everyone else.
I said the PEOPLE HAVE NO INTENTION OF BUYING THE GAME, EVEN IF WAREZ DIDN'T EXIST, THEY WOULD NOT BUY.
If some kid uploads his copy via the web, it does not cost the company any money, it's not the same as stealing a car, if you steal a Ferrari you prolly wouldn't ever buy it, but when you steal it, the manufacturing cost went into that car.

I wasn't responding to you dzjepp but in response to you why would anyone download the game if they have no intention of playing it?
It's not the act of having the game in your presence that's really the problem it's the fact that you use the program installed on the cd. That use is what you are paying for so if you intend to USE the game then yes you are costing them money because you aren't paying for that USE. People who have no intention of buying a game do if warez didn't exist wouldn't play the game and wouldn't care either way.
So the awnser is still the same.
