What are your feelings on such maps like The Longest Day and when they are played on such servers where you're pinging fine (0-50), yet there are quite a bit of players at once, not to mention rockets going off everywhere?

the map rocks for 1v1 or even 2v2s, but ya beyond that it can get pretty hairy. But it is a fun diversion sometimes even for DM. back in 1999 I played dm17 like a religion. Had a server running only that map 1v1 and it was full everynight with 12 specs. Also I had stats with about 800+ players ranked. Only about 2-3 ppl could beat me. :D

i like this reamake of the longest day, it seems more jolly, yet the layout is the same. I loved this map in the origanal and loved sniping from that far out platform.

Pointless map. Only added because it takes an hour to start/finish the map fully, and it add's one more "classic" to the final list number.

TBH its retarded they added it, it does nothing but lag your connection out, in a game where its already hard enough trying to get a smooth game as it is.

Yeah really good if you know spawn points and can kill your opponent 30-0 without him moving.

seriously all joking aside, that map is a game unto itself. believe it or not the map has a lot of little things that you learn about how to play it well 1v1 and there is lots of timing to be done for the items on the map. it is interesting they moved the machine gun ammo to the bottom, that is the most needed item on the map. I bet most people don't even know that.

also since for the most part you can always shoot at your opponent the play on the map is very fast and furious and it pays off to have good air rocket aim in addition to mg.

That can be said about any Quake map..and dm17 is all about rail.. you can have a mean aim with the MG but you will loose if ya meet someone that are ace with the rail.

Again..crap map.
