3dsmax and mental ray renderer

Post by Tsakali_ »

is it just me or is it way too slow, I don't even know why it would be an option for rendering, ...I mean if you want a nice size screnshot you better have a few hours to spare cause it will take that long.

am I doing somethign wrong with the settings? should I used open gl instead of DX of the options 3dsmax gives you? I really can't stand how slow it renders compared to the default renderer

is there a addon or better option for a high quality renderer out there?

Choosing opengl or directx is only for the viewport preview, it has nothing to do with doing a render, if I'm not mistaken.

Mental ray is a bit different from the standard scanline renderer. I'd try to find some tutorials or guides for setting it up. It is slow, a moderately complex scene does take it's time. A couple of hours isn't very unusual.
