Fast Healthy Food
Fast Healthy Food
Post em up. I'm after cooked or cold food that's dead simple to make and won't turn you into a fat cunt.
Currently eating:
Bowl of boiled rice
2xtin of chopped tomatoes plus some pepper, jalapeno chillies, and pepper hot sauce mixed in
Decent food, spicy, tastes pretty good and not bland.

you looking for fast healthy source of calories/protein/fats or of the micronutrients (i.e. fruits/veggies)?
This is my breakfast:
Shake: 250ml milk, 2 scoops of protein/carb powder (=25g protein & 500 calories excluding milk), 1-2 tbsp virgin coconut oil, banana.
Bowl + Spoon: 1/2 - 1 cup organic hemp/granola cereal + 3 tbsp plain yoghurt.
Not many micronutrients, but lots of macro.
My most elaborate meal these days is chicken and mustard sandwhiches on flax seed bread.
I cook about 4 pounds at a time - lasts me a week. Just put salt and pepper on each half pound piece, wrap each piece in tin foil, and put in oven on 350 for 30 min or so.
Tupperware it in fridge.
When you want to heat it up, just chop it up (chops real easy if you cook it the way i do) and fry on low heat for 1-2 min in oil of choice.
Takes about 7 min to prepare if you're efficient. Soon as you put the chicken in pan, start toasting the first two pieces of bread, etc.
I guess this stuff isn't all that tasty, but it's quick and healthy.

The following might be a bit like stating the obvious, but I don't think many people do this sort of thing.
In the evening, instead of ripping open a bag of chips, get some different fruits, like a pear, an apple, an orange and some grapes. Clean it all and cut it into easy to eat pieces. Throw it in a bowl and eat it.
All those fruits might be a bit much for one person, but it's pretty good for two people. If you're alone you could limit yourself to two fruits ofcourse, but diversity is nice.
I've been doing this almost every night when I'm with my girlfriend and she and I really enjoy just sitting down for a moment and enjoying a big bowl of fruit.
Afterwards you feel pretty well filled up (stopping you from stuffing yourself with candy and everything) and it strokes the conscious as well as it feels right eating healthy things.

500 kilocalories you mean[xeno]Julios wrote:

Isn't that a bit much for a breakfast ? My breakfast (2 slices of brown bread, butter and something like cheese is no more than 250 kcal. Rarely feel hungry between breakfast and lunch.
You probably get a lot of excersise so you need the energy, but for someone like me with a lazy office job 500kcal seems like a bit much

yea i like to get in about 3500-4000 kcals a day. I've been cycling an average of 25km a day on a cheap mountain bike, plus hours of vball and gym. The cycling really burns off the cals so it's close to impossible to gain weight without going a bit bananas on the food.Eraser wrote: Isn't that a bit much for a breakfast ? I gotta start eating more fruits & veggies.
I went through a period where i'd do up an elaborate fruit/veggie salad every day, but it gets expensive and time consuming.
Might start eating one every other day or something.
I just don't like the idea of eating a multivitamin pill, but maybe it's a good idea?

I hate pills, so I'd rather stay away from them.[xeno]Julios wrote:I gotta start eating more fruits & veggies.

The fruit thing's not too much work IMO and just tastes really good. Especially if you chuck in a few grapes or strawberries or maybe prunes which you only have to wash off and eat like that. Bananas are easy too. Oranges are a bitch though, especially if you have a bit of scarred skin on your fingers. The juice stings like hell. But if it's all too much work, then you can buy fresh fruit cleaned and cut to pieces from most grocery stores (at least, you can here)
Fruit's good for the digestive system as well. If you have problems going to the toilet, eat fruits and vegetables.
I have to say that eating healthy is slightly overrated these days. Yes, people are getting fatter and fatter, so it's kind of a weird statment, but that's only because people aren't sensible about their food anymore.
If you eat bread or cereal and a cup of tea (or coffee) for breakfast, a good lunch, ordinary dinner with fresh vegatables, some fruit and cut down on the sugar-heavy soda's (switch to light variants) then there's even room left to eat some candy, a nice desert after dinner and a cookie with your evening cup of coffee
I hate pills as well, and rarely, rarely take them. Multivits are good for you though, as long as they're not overloading you with things they shouldn't be. For example, you don't want to be taking supplements containing iron.[xeno]Julios wrote:I gotta start eating more fruits & veggies.

These days, they have so many specifically tailored pills that it's easy to find one that works for you.

Sadly I cannot eat most fresh fruits anymore. Within a year I developed an allergy to the protiens in some fruits. I swell up like a baloon if I eat them, others make my gums swell which is quite painfull.Eraser wrote:The following might be a bit like stating the obvious, but I don't think many people do this sort of thing.

I eat fruit leathers now, or steamed veggies, it's not as tasty as fruit, but...

nope I can eat cooked fruits, or processed fruits. We have a healthy store here that sells Fruit leathers. It's like a fruit roll up without the sugar and other crap added. I usually eat a few of those a week to "get my fruit on"

exactly if it's cooked or processed it breaks down the proteins I am allergic to thus making it edible to me without a reaction.plained wrote:fruit leather is process food
