MedicalHelp3World, I need your help :(

Post by Transient »

Before I say anything else, I'll tell you I already made an appointment to see my doctor. I just want to try to rule a few things out to make the process go quicker.

So anyway, I've had a headache for about a week now. I'd say it was moderate, but any major activity makes it worse, to the point of nausea (especially while driving). I know there are about a bajillion different things that could cause a constant headache, but does anyone know of common things? There are 2 things that come to mind, one of which is a toothache. It hasn't hurt my mouth much, but I might have just gotten used to it. The other is a buildup of wax in my ears, which while not serious, may be magnified by living at a high altitude (fuck you, Vermont). The only other thing I can think of is slightly unrealistic, but it's possible it could be a carbon monoxide leak in the house, isn't it? Though I think that would make me tired as well...

Anyway, anybody know of anything I can do to rule out some things? I don't feel like keeping this headache for several weeks while I go to 3 or 4 doctor visits if I can get it over in 1 or 2 visits. :(

Hmm, good question. I wear glasses and my sight is decent, but not 20/20 anymore. A year ago I went to see the eye doctor and he made a new perscription for me, but I didn't get them ordered because I didn't have the money. I haven't been arsed to go get them lately.

you might wanna go to the eye doctor again. youre supposed to check up every 6 months (at least for the first few years), because it might be getting worse.

A headache us such a common symptom that even a doctor would have a problem pin pointing the cause. Get a blood test, it should tell you if it's something within your body.

Vertigo is something like that but you don't mention being dizzy, just headaches.

Get your glasses prescription sorted.

Other common causes of headaches:
sinus trouble
cluster headaches (generally worse one time of day)
tension (simple) headache
overuse of painkillers (ironic, innit)
Staring at a computer screen all damn day

what kind of headache - what areas of your head hurt? Is it a throbbing? Are the areas contiguous to each other (i.e. one general area), or mutliple distinct areas (like a dual throbbing on either side).

Do you remember a specific moment when the pain started? Were you exerting yourself?

Did you wake up with one?

Does sleep bring any relief?

What is the quality of your sleep?

Does advil help at all?

Ha.... I used to get headaches especially while driving. I later found out it was because some of the hoses under my hood had cracked and gas vapors were being let in the air vents.... SMART!

The back of my head, kind of behind my ears mostly. It's a cold, sharp pain, but also somewhat dull at the same time. It's doesn't throb, it's a constant pain. And it's localized to just the back of my head, from what I can tell by contentrating on it right now.

Do you remember a specific moment when the pain started? Were you exerting yourself?

Noes.

Did you wake up with one?

I wake up every morning with it.

Does sleep bring any relief?

No.

What is the quality of your sleep?

I sleep a few hours, then get up for a while, then sleep some more. Not a full 8-hours though.

Does advil help at all?

I take Tylenol, but no.

I had a blood test a month ago and everything came back normal. They'll probably send me down to the hospital to have one done again anyway. Gah.

kewl tx transient. When you see your doctor be sure to give him all that info.

Also think about stressors in your life right now - they might be a factor.

Well, I just got over a cold a little while ago (stuffy nose, sore throat, and fever), and the headache started around the same time. I got over the sore throat within 12 hours and the fever within 36, though. The stuffy nose took a few days.

The only time the headache is worse is when I do something that would obviously aggrivate it (i.e. driving, running/bouncing around, listening to really loud music).

And I've been taking Tylenol every 4-5 hours to no avail. I guess I'll stop that now, LOL.

I've stared at a computer sceen all damn day for about a decade and never gotten more than a minor headache from it, so it probably isn't that. At least I pray to god it isn't, because that would crush me. :(

Thanks for asking the questions. Heh, it almost seems like I got more vague instead of narrowing the possibilities now that I started this thread. :/

But it does help. I'll get my prescription changed, stop taking painkillers, and my sleep schedule will be going back to normal next week. Thanks a ton, guys.

I had a headache tonight, but went to work anyway, it progressed into migrane, so i went out and got drunk after work with some mates, got a little better but then hit me badly so i went home. Now I'm at home and can't sleep and have this horrible pain in the front of my head (esp just above my temples).

I've already seen the doctor, and she says stress less, and sleep more. I have end-of-year exams for my Year 12 (last year of highschool) in two weeks, and i can't sleep because of the headache

solution: kill yourself.

I've found that many of my headaches are due to dehydration, even though I don't feel dehydrated at the time. The solution is to drink water as much as I can throughout the day.

I also recommend starting the day with two Excedrin. That seems to help, too :)

If you're peeing yellow then you're dehydrated even if you don't feel it. You might know that though.

Huh? I've always pissed yellow unless I'm out drinking at the bar.
