Makes sense for both sides to invent a character like that though - the US needs a demon, the resistance a leader.

Obviously he's either long dead, an insignificant terror cell leader or never real to begin with.

and how does the media who report this guff know all these guys are aides/lieutenants/deputies etc? because donald rumsfeld tells them so at DOD press conferences most likely

The problem is there is no media anymore, all meida sources relate to "officials say......"

Its just an outlet for the government to say what they want

you look at cnn, abc, cbs, bbc etc they all say the same thing in slightly different words but sometimes exactly the same.

Journalism is a rare art and journalists who seek out the truth are few and far between

Official sources say.......

Yeah but every time a close associate of Zarqawi does get killed , of course , he gets replaced.
So what is the problem with many close associates getting killed?
It's like several Hamas leaders getting assassinated and replaced and assassinated every year.
The only reason they don't call the Israelis liars is because it doesn't feed an active US government 9/11 conspiracy crowd like these sort of stories the liberal press is spinning.
