There anything I can do?

Post by DiscoDave »

Moved into my new place at uni, a housemate of mine decided to get the internet sorted out. He ordered 2mbit from plusnet and got it installed etc etc.

We were wondering why we weren't getting very good speeds until i checked the router and found out we were only connected to 1mbit.

Bit strange and I decided to phone up my ISP (Plusnet)

They told us that we cant get 2mbit on the line provided, and because they dont do a 1mbit service anymore we will be charged for a 2mbit line even though its only at 1mbit. Dispite them telling us before we ordered we can get 2mbit.

They wont let us leave the contract for something stupid like 4 months.

Plusnet asked me to check the line from BT, so i phoned BT and they confirmed i can get upto 2mbit on my line. Plusnet were aparrently going to check with BT themselves but we haven't had any word from them since.

take it higher up the chain (supervisors, region managers, etc) instead of talking to a bored call center rep., and keep complaining that you were promised and assured you could connect at 2mbit, and you demand a refund or at least being let out of contract.

Im not sure if any of you guys deal with lines and whatnot, but incase you do, what do you think of this:

Upstream xDSL Link Info
Loop Loss 12 dB
Margin 31 dB
Errored Seconds 0
HEC Errors 0
Cell Count 43710
Speed 288 k
Downstream xDSL Link Info
Loop Loss 21.5 dB
Margin 40 dB
Errored Seconds 0
HEC Errors 0
Cell Count 85552

Tell them that there service is substandard and you were lied too. Mention the advertising watchdog, or just watchdog themselves and they will sort u out.

Would this be enough to start a proper complaint?

You need to talk to your customer service rep's supervisor.

Don't deal with those people for problems. When it seems like you're running into a wall, ask to speak with their supervisor and tell him what you were promised, and how you're being lied to.

If he insists on giving you the same line of BS, then talk to his supervisor. You already verified personally that your line supports 2mb, and your contract says you bought 2mb. There is no reason they should be charging you for a 2mb line and only giving you 1.

aye.

unless you have already, it would be worth getting something from bt in writing to say that the line can take 2mb.

you can do that by writing to them and asking what the line can take, that *should* get you a written response. don't mention anything about your dispute with plusnet.

then - if you're sucessful in hassling plusnet, only to find out that bt were bullshitting, you'll be able to move straight onto hassling bt with the potential support of plusnet.

Thanks for the support guys.

I phoned up plusnet and talked to their customer services dept. Was put on hold as the chap went and talked to the technicians who were aparrently "Stumped" why 2meg isn't activated yet. But they're going to regrade our service, which will be fun to see.

Was funny as he said "Well it says you can get up to 2mbit" and i replied with "so what are you saying, we cant get 2mbit but we can get 1.9mbit?" lol
