Is there a better way to install windows xp then to use the window 98 boot disk, convert the whole drive to fat32, format, put smartdrv then install windows xp and make it convert back to ntsf. Is there a better way?

Just boot the windows xp cd and then format the partition you want to install it on (ntfs/fat) during the setup?

Was it the full version or upgrade version?

I've done full installs of XP from an Upgrade version. Just boot from the upgrade disk and right before choosing what HDD to use and format it says that it needs proof of a previous copy of Windows. I put in anything from Win98 to XP, I think any copy, even upgrade copies of any Windows 98 opr newer, maybe 95, and then it says ok and asks for the XP upgrade CD back and it does a full install from it

the upgrade versions just ask you to pop the older version disc in during install to confirm you qualify - never heard of being required to install the older os first
