How many of you will be picking up an Xbox 360 at release?

I pre-ordered one...first thing I've pre-ordered since a Nintendo 64 in 1995 or whenever...... Don't know when the first price drop will be (probably soon after release) but what the hell...I gave away my PS2 so I need another console to take its place next to the xbox.
Now - stupid question -
How will the performance of the 360 compare to that of a loaded PC? With consoles it seems like they can optimize things a bit more - so you can't just do a straight comparison of hardware specs on the console to similar hardware specs on a PC...but some of the in-game screenies I've seen have been pretty impressive looking.
Thoughts on what a comparable PC system might have in terms of performance?

depends if you will still be able to chip it and mod it as you can the current

High price for the unit, limited accesories, high game prices, low selection of titles, no indication of the 'standing' compared to the other consoles.
So no. The only reasons to get the latest toy 'at release' are techno lust or for posing.

Getting one on launch day but not pre-ordering one so might be just after
In terms of standing and performance power. Based upon pure graphical capabilities and physics simulation I would think somewhere around a PIV 5GHz and 7800 ultra SLI

The 360 launch library looks suprisingly strong.
From here:
http://www.gamestop.com/gs/360/360.asp
Project Gotham Racing, Elders Scrolls IV, Call of Duty 2, Quake 4, Tony Hawk, Need for Speed, and Ridge Racer. Hmmmmm. Amd maybe Tiger Woods. (Getting that whole omega bundle would probably be a bad idea :icon28: ).
You can have all these great games that will appear on the pc and you can play them JUST like they will look on the pc, with the same features (no more skimping on stuff for the little ol' console). A 300$ Xbox or a $2000+ PC to be able to play these games at full quality? This is why I'm more leaning on getting a console and fucking the pc altogether.

I've had mine pre-ordered couple months ago. Will pick it up but probably won't buy any games for it yet, well maybe NFS:MS.
Not sure which one to get. I don't really need a wireless controller since it'll be in my bedroom.
I'd rather pop in a bigger hard drive though.

Xbox Live is very large. And with 360 it will only get larger. Plus, it looks like the hard drive will finally be of some use to everybody. The new live will allow you to download new maps and stuff.
I know it's still not the same as a pc. But the price of admission on a console is sooo much easier to swallow.

I like my PC for FPS' but other than that, I love my xbox.
It's nice to play against other people and not have to worry about installing Ventrillo or any other chat program.

The 360 would actually cost more than your average gaming machine.
Also heard a rumor that the 360 was going to be liquid cooled.
But that rumor dosen't seem true.

Why would it cost more?

If you mean because of buying games, well, if you are a legit pc gamer, you still need to buy your games.

3 processors plus the high end graphics card plus all the other crap inside of it.

Ohhh I see. Yeah, technically. But it's nice that it's actually so affordable.

With the new high end consoles you'll see prices of video games slightly higher.
Just means that they'll be making higher polly models, maps, etc. that will require more time to make.

So what are you guys doing with your old XBOX when you get the 360.
I'm giving mine to my roommate.

Not I.
360 out this November. PS2 out mid next year. If I ever get either, it'll be when or after PS2 comes out.

A good comparison is that the 360 can run Q4 and CoD2 without any degradation to graphics, size of levels, or performance.
