i dunno - it takes one joke and beats it to a sad death..

there was hardly any creativity in that video.

Yeah, but when you consider the context in which it was presented, an American public terrified of anything considered remotely 'racist' against black people, Chapelle was taking a bit of a chance. But he gets away with it because he's black.

A month or 3 ago, someone posted a jon stewart video interview with some guy who said every racist remark outloud except nigger.. The guy had to actively stop himself from saying it. He didn't have trouble saying any of the other 4 words he said, but the taboo associated with nigger made him think twice

I think it was Bernard Goldberg, and when he did finally say it, it was bleeped (and the other racial slurs were not, if memory serves).

haha.. yeah, that's right. Jon Stewart said it, it was bleeped, then Goldberg said it and they bleeped it as well. And yeah, the other words (including kike) were kosher with the censors.

I never really thought about that dimension of the video. I have a whole lot more respect for it now, but I still don't find it "funny" in that good comedy way.
