I guess your country doesnt have an over-sensitive issue with race.[xeno]Julios wrote:i never really "got" david chappelle - seems like slapstick humour to me...

Yeah, but when you consider the context in which it was presented, an American public terrified of anything considered remotely 'racist' against black people, Chapelle was taking a bit of a chance. But he gets away with it because he's black.[xeno]Julios wrote:i dunno - it takes one joke and beats it to a sad death..
there was hardly any creativity in that video.
A month or 3 ago, someone posted a jon stewart video interview with some guy who said every racist remark outloud except nigger.. The guy had to actively stop himself from saying it. He didn't have trouble saying any of the other 4 words he said, but the taboo associated with nigger made him think twice
haha.. yeah, that's right. Jon Stewart said it, it was bleeped, then Goldberg said it and they bleeped it as well. And yeah, the other words (including kike) were kosher with the censors.Hannibal wrote:I think it was Bernard Goldberg, and when he did finally say it, it was bleeped (and the other racial slurs were not, if memory serves).

I never really thought about that dimension of the video. I have a whole lot more respect for it now, but I still don't find it "funny" in that good comedy way.Dave wrote:

yea i'm getting quite sick of these double standards around racism tbh...A month or 3 ago, someone posted a jon stewart video interview with some guy who said every racist remark outloud except *****.. The guy had to actively stop himself from saying it. He didn't have trouble saying any of the other 4 words he said, but the taboo associated with ***** made him think twice
