So the UK caught up to the USA

Post by hax103 »

in fatties!

"The overall number of overweight and obese people in the United Kingdom is similar to the United States with some 65 percent of men tipping the scales too high for their good health." [Cancer Research UK]

I'm almost afraid to look at the figures for Holland :)

Untrue. What the English consider to be obese is not the same as to what Americans consider obese.

If you look at all those obesity ratios and stuff, whats considered obese is pretty unforgiving.

That being said, I wonder how these stats would look if the study looked at how obese these obese people of UK/USA were.

So, they're not quite as fat, but almost?

Obese is the same scale in the US as it is anyplace else. They go my the bodies total fat percentage, and they don't make exeptions for the UK or any other country for that matter.

UK definition of overweight is a BMI of 25 to 30. Obese is over 30, morbidly obese over 40.

I think the USA uses the same definition?

Do the medical communities really use different benchmarks? Linkage?

BMI is a worthless scale for measuring obesity anyway, always has been. This is hype, and the way it is being hyped is ultimately going to wind up costing taxpayer dollars to pay for stomach-stapling surgery, through Medicare.

Which will be yet another thing for me to hold against the Democratic party, more than likely.

Yep. And I drive a pickup with oversized wheels and a gunrack in the back window, with deer antlers as a hood ornament.

That's okay if it's all you can afford. I alternate my accent between the Queen's (who I love unashmedly) English and a cheeky Cockney brogue.
