He used to do all that crazy shit at my elementary school-walking on glass, breaking cinder blocks on his chest while laying on a bed of nails, and the cucumber trick. Never saw the nail driving though.
heh...the cucumber/sword thing is a matter of physics...kind of similar to the reason you can lay a cinder block on someone's chest and smash it with a sledgehammer without hurting them (not the exact same principle though).
Yeah it's not something incredibly hard but I would imagine it takes a lot of training to do it safely.

Actually a former martial artist told me that it's because the Katana doesn't actually cut head on, to cut in one would have to pull downwards against the flesh, which they don't do obviously.
Or are we talking about a different cucumber trick?

I've not had a fight in more than four years but I can give a good account of myself if I need to. That said I'm giving serious thought to taking up a martial art again and getting a decent belt in something, I need to look up some info to see what floats my boat, any links to what a few of them involves would be useful, so far I've discounted Judo because I at least want something that involves punching/palming to a reasonable extent.
I used to box so I've got a nice solid punch with either hand and I'm pretty quick with them too. Last time I went on a punchbag for a few rounds I was wheezing like an old man though, I must have been really fucking fit a few years back :icon19:

Never been in a fight. Not even in school. People like me.
Or it might be that I'm seen as non-threatening, due to my shy submissive nature.

Well I've been in a few street fights. Mostly big brawls among a group of guys. I'm not usualy one to fight unless I have no choice. Last year a buddy of mine was jumped by 6 guys and there were only four of us there. (there was a huge crowd of people)
Anyway, I did alright for myself but a fight like that is pretty chaotic. I had some pretty mean brawlers on my side and those guys were just rich kids from the valley north of here. (where all the rich folk live)
Anyway it was pretty ugly. I'm pretty sure I split someones face open when I kicked him in the head.
Usualy though I wouldn't have to fight. The number of people you don't want to fuck with I know is enough for anyone to not want to fuck with me.

same here. apart from the 'probably quite good', 'body mass' and 'strong' bits.
i fucking hate fighting. it's not the violence itself that bothers me, it's the fact that fights around here are almost invariably with scallies (chavs) - so any fisticuffs are sandwiched by 5 minutes of dialogue with people that are dumber than fish.

I don't fight. Mostly because it's absolutely pointless. So many fights happen over the most stupid unimportant things. I reckon if I heard the reason for the majority of people that get into scraps, and who end up in hospital, I'd probably laugh. There's a lot of thick people that simply don't know how to control their rage.

Yep that's true Drum but sometimes you don't come to the fight it comes to you.

A fight has never come to me since I was at school, and the closest I come to fights these days are when I'm in my car, road rage, people cutting me up or vice versa. Plenty of cursing and finger signs get exchanged, but never to the point of fisticuffs. Some kid on a motorbike came really close to me recently at some traffic lights. Consequently, as I moved forward I clipped part of his bike. He wasn't happy. Not my fault. He was threatening me like ' I should fucking smash your car', etc. My take was, well, I'm stuck in traffic alongside him. If I take the same stance as him, who knows what would happen. And since so many people today are into martial arts, ( and I'm not ), not to mention the amount of knives and guns around, you've gotta be dead sure of your own abilities rather than just let anger make that decision for you.
Would there be any point in getting into a physical fight with him? No, because 2 minutes later, the traffic cleared, we both went off in different directions, and nobody wasted energy and nobody got hurt. Since road rage things like this happen practically every day, I just take it in my stride, realise the other guy is usually the idiot, and have no reason to prove anything.
But if fights are coming to people when it's not so easy to get away, then you have to question the type of place and the type of people you associate with.
Oh, and my biggest reason not to fight is my hands. As a drummer, I really don't want to break them.

Yeah I wouldn't expect a fight to come to me if I was like you Drum. I'm just saying in my world it's a little different. I deal with people on a daily basis that are either pissing on someone elses parade or that just don't like me or friends of mine for various reasons. Enemy by association.
Some of em are really just drunk, or high. Some owe me money and don't want to pay up and they feel they'll get the jump if they attack first. Even though I've never beaten anyone up for owing me money.

Well I certainly appreciate that everyones circumstances are different and I've observed people who's lives are completely different to mine and not always by their own choice. If people don't have certain things in life, I can see how easy it would be to end up mixing with people where trouble is always around the corner.

i pretty much suck at fighting.
even though I am pretty fast and have VERY heavy hands, if I don't land a clean punch first, I usually get my ass kicked, bad.
but throwing a good punch has saved my ass a few times and yes if it comes down to it, I always swing first.
