actually it's Apple who are the winner because they get to make billions selling shiny products to image-obsessed metrosexuals on the backs of an army of poorly-paid and mistreated wage slaves

Apples earnings may have part to do with cheap labour, but so does every other tech company. You'll be hard pressed to find any other tech company that doesn't manufacture its products in China, Taiwan, Philippines, etc. But you don't see other companies raking in the cash like Apple, most other companies like HP are selling their products very close to cost and are relying on volume.
Apple's profits benefits from slightly higher than average tech industry margins (but not nearly as high margins as other industries like apparel), but mostly from selling services and media. Apple makes a killing selling music, movies, apps, eBooks, magazines, etc. They are the new new media company and that's partly why they dropped "computer" from "Apple Computer Company", computer hardware is just a small piece of their pie.

Funny,
Apple CEO feels the need to shush his own employees.
I dunno, but emailing your own employees that the reports in the NY Times are false seems like a really desperate thing to do.

The movement should occupy Cupertino. Speaking of which I don't live far off, any ideas how to get people organized to demonstrate? Social media?

The only rationalization I can possibly come up with for Apple (Steve Jobs in particular) being so paranoid and secretive is because they believed (probably rightly so) that Microsoft would steal everything from out under their noses.
Another example of how psychopathic CEOs run their businesses.

It's a bad situation. I hope Microsoft, Samsung, Acer, Amazon, Dell, HP, Intel, Motorola, Nintendo, Sony, Asus, IBM, Lenovo, and Apple can figure out a solution.
