the US's military technology is way superior to China's. What the hell is a whole bunch of footsoldiers going to do in a modern war? dig trenches and wait for the USA to bomb them? or pack them on navy ships to attack the USA and see how many yards they can get off the chinese coast before they're blown up?
all of china's hard targets: tanks, military bases, planes, ships, etc would be wiped out in weeks without a single US soldier touching chinese soil. Their only defense would quickly fall to hiding among civilians like the iraqis/viet cong. But if this is total war (minus nukes) we could just destroy the cities too.

that takes the whole arguement out of the hypothetical realm of comparing 2 nation's military capabilities in an isolated enviornment.
