the US's military technology is way superior to China's. all of china's hard targets: tanks, military bases, planes, ships, etc would be wiped out in weeks without a single US soldier touching chinese soil. Their only defense would quickly fall to hiding among civilians like the iraqis/viet cong. But if this is total war (minus nukes) we could just destroy the cities too.

Actually yes... The US lost the political war in Vietnam, but won with great victory the military war.

2 million Vietnamese dead to 60,000 american (I'm not sure atm on that number).

So far as I know, the US won every single battle in Vietnam(excluding little isolated gun fights in the bush). It was the spirit of the people they couldn't beat, not the numbers of people. Fuck.. far as that goes, it was lambs to the lions.

that takes the whole arguement out of the hypothetical realm of comparing 2 nation's military capabilities in an isolated enviornment. The person who posted in the sense that the Viet military owned the USA military. But if you put this into a nation vs nation no holds fight the USA would slaughter them.
Even in the real war, the USA could have stayed and played their dirty game of guerrila warfare and came up victorious but pretty much bored themselves out.
