o'dium wrote:The problem is that with current gen games, you need a much larger team, and id refuse to do this. They want to stay in their small 3 man army of death, and while that worked for games that took less than a year to make, it just doesn't work now.

This means that games like doom 3 are easier for them to do, because there just isn't anything there they HAVE to do.

Take a look at Epic. They are working on Gears Of War, Unreal Tourny 2007, and loads more not talked about. They can do this AND pump in massive detail into their engines, because they looked at the work load and did the right thing; Expanded.

As long as id refuse to expand, thye will NEVER make games as good as we want. Its amazing they got Doom 3 out of the door in the state they are in. (Which, was not good. Doom 3 was far far better in the E3 days, then went down hill, then Trent added his sounds and he went up again, then, he left with his sounds and went down hill again. See what a different a good sound guy makes?)

Maybe id will expand in the future, maybe not. But until then, they will NEVER get that old shine back.
It doesn't help they chased off all of their "real talent" for personal reasons. It's one thing to argue what's best for the company but they got personal like most geeks do with their games and they all parted ways which is why id sucks more cock than Paris Hilton in a weekend.

The point is, a lot of people can...

I've played a lot of mods from people that have great gameplay and take bold steps in NEW directions.

And you know what? They dont have a fucking shotgun I can tell you that.

I don't care what they say. I was the most hardcore id fan on the planet. In fact, the only games I ever played and purchased were id titles. When my hardware wouldn't run D3, I lost all respect. I've upgraded since but there's no need to get D3 as it is as gay as Nichola Tesla.

Hey i never used to be able ot runn Quake 3 decently either until I upgraded. I would have ot turn everything off, even down to 2d fucking weapon models, thats how bad it was. And even then, in my 4 colour world, i had less than 30FPS.

But i still played.

It never beat Quake 2. Quake 2 was amazing fun to play, and its mods... God its mods... Quake 3 took a step backward, and Doom 3 unfortunatly took a huge jump.

"yeah, well we know there was a problem with player skins in Quake 3 not working like quake 2, so we fixed it in doom 3. Now, you can only pick one model, with 4 different colours!"

Quake 4 looks to be a huge step in the RIGHT diretion raw, you should check it out. It really is Quake 3 with better than Doom 3 looks, and none of the shit that Doom 3 had.

I was dissappointed to find out id dumped off their main title onto another company (Raven). The simple fact is, replicating the 'id feel' is not the same as the real thing. It's like buying Bobo shoes that look like Nikes. They are still shoes but not Nikes.

So RtCW sucked, too?

Remember, what your saying is that id has lost the plot... So why not pass it on to somebody that might NOT fuck it up for a change?

RtCW rocked because of who did it. The SP wasn't amazing but held its own, but the MP section owned more than anything. Would it of done the same if id had done it? Probably not. We would probably of had DM/TM/CTF and thats it.

So maybe, just maybe, Raven have done a GOOD thing by taking it off of id's hands...

CTF if you're lucky. 3 maps, maybe.

RTCW shouldve had co-op. thats pretty much my only gripe

I didn't like RTCW. I played the demo and thought it was quite gay IMO.

Q2 was mega ultra extreme faster than Q3. Q1 blew Q2 away. Q1dm4 or 6 ruled the world. Fucking PWNED boyeeee.

Not even the MP?

I suppose you have to be a fan of team play, and most people liked DM more.

Everytime I went on MP with RTCW I lagged to fucking hell, it was choppy, and a bunch of newbs never got my back. At least with Quake I only have myself to blame if I suck, not my team.

By the way, I have every single Q3 test ever released. I was on Dial-up when Q3Test first came out and I downloaded it for like 8 hours @ 5 kbps.

I still owned most of you niggers on DM17 when I was told by id that it was a lan-only map. I destroyed mother fuckers with my 200 ping rail and was always accused of being a bot. I get DSL and my rail goes to shit. :olo:
