But like I said I bought other shit to complete the meal like fresh bread, chips, 12 pack of pepsi, and fresh cookies for dessert.Pext wrote:52$ ?!?!?
that sounds pretty expensive for a chili.
let's see what i'd pay for it:
2 lbs ground beef ~ 8€
1 beer ~ 1,50€
3 cans red kidney beans ~ 2€
4 jalapenos ~ 2€
2 cans tomato sauce
+ 1 can diced tomatoes ~ 1,50 €
1 chopped white onion ~ you should allways have onions at home
1 packet generic chili powder ~ 2€
that's 17€... that should be around 32$
maybe you paid 52$ because you had to buy some of the spices.
btw: you need grounded cumin, no seeds.
and you could add a knife point of cinnamon to adjust the taste ( this goes for nearly every tomato sauce)
yeah, sometimes it makes me wonder when people say its cheaper to make food at home (i understand though that if you just want to make a PB&J sandwich, its nothin' at all). especially if youre cooking just for one or two people, if you want to make something decent (and dont have a fully stocked kitchen), a regular meal can get kind of pricey.
granted, youll have a shitload of cumin powder left over or whatever you need. but if you dont cook all that much, each meal is pretty pricey, especially when each meal usually uses different ingredients/spices.
