In some ways you're right, I was mulling over the same choice last night. Gamecubes are going for pocket change currently though, so there's price to factor into the equation.

Yeah, but a GC will never play a Wii game...

Isn't that horribly obvious?

Yeah, but why would you buy an outdated console because it's cheap and has cheap games when you can buy a brand new console that will play everything under the sun + those cheap games your raving about.

Just get an Xbox 360 so you can graze along with the rest of us sheep here.

It scales both ways, because it depends on whether you're fussed about buying the latest titles or not. I'm well behind the times on console gaming, the last thing I bought was San Andreas for the PS2. The only new console stuff I'm fussed about is the multiplayer kit appearing for the 360, on which I might make a serious purchase sometime early next year.

Wii here is gonna be priced at £180 brand new.
Refurb gamecubes are currently going here on the high street for £30. Games are £10 to £15 second hand, which I'm not fussed about since I gut all my disc cases and keep the media in a big chest case.

So that's how it pans out from my perspective. Down the line when/if the Wii gets some killer titles I don't want to miss like the PS2 did with GT3/Burnout3/GTA:SA, I'll snag it for a lower sum than £180, and at worst I'll have 'lost' £50 on the gamecube hardware + extra controllers.

Not me. I'm getting that for Christmas, along with The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (I was told to get a game for the Wii, and this was the only one I want).

I see no-one has yet challenged my grand unified theory of being a gaming cheapskate.

It's because its a very sound principle!!!

I have just dicovered Burnout 3 and its by far the best game in the burnour series!!! I absolutly love it. So much so i pick that up earlier before Gears of War!!! :icon28:

Actually you're just being smart not wasting anymore money on next-gen plastic boxes if you're happy with the games you have now.
