In fact they did. In medieval times fresh clean water was hard to come by, so beer was (due to the way it was processed and cooked) a lot safer to drink than water.

If bottled water is not supposed to be clean and clear, then what about the water used for coke?

i just filter all my tap water. drink about 6-7 litres of water a day.

In ancient times human beings or their ancestors used to drink any available water on earth.
