potential for hand gun ban in Canada

I'm rather undecided on this ban, leaning against it. If gun access is at best weakly associated with crime and homicide rates, then a ban would be minimally effective if not at all. I don't see this ban burdening any private citizen excessively here, but erring on the side of freedom seems like good policy in the face of ineffective bans.

I suppose cops may waste their time hunting down the remaining illegally owned handguns, while the flow of guns from the US keeps them busy indefinitely. They already waste their time on marijuana traffickers. Perhaps the greatest down side of the handgun ban may be more police resources squandered.

IMO it would hurt by wasting a ton of money, which could be far better spent elsewhere, to accomplish nothing.
