My girlfriend voted Green as well and they had a pretty good run this election. Now that the election is over it'll be interesting to see what big blue does next.

Actually I'm taking criminology with joining a municipal force in mind, know Vancouver PD officers and other municipal police personally, and all of my criminology instructors to date have been officers or involved with the local or provincial criminal justice system. I'll take their word over your uninformed opinion any day GFY.

Cops get assaulted every single day in Van and violence is a daily occurrence. All it takes to find out is talking to them on the street, at a bar, concert, etc. Most of them are more than happy to talk about the pros and cons of the job. Unfortunately, most of it is part of the homeless and drug-addiction problem Vancouver is facing at the moment. A big part of that very problem is the BC Liberals absolutely gutting the mental health budgets and shutting down institutions and the majority of group homes. FFS, our bus drivers here get violently assaulted more than once a week. It didn't used to be that way but it unfortunately has become that way over the past number of years...

...As for violent gun crime GFY why don't you start reading news from out here or even in Toronto over the past 3 years? You'll find your own answers if you even put half an effort in. Gun violence is on the increase, most often initiated by gang members. Banning all guns is useless since the majority are smuggled in from the US illegally anyways so enacting laws which put the people committing gun crimes behind bars rather than serving community service is a really good start. That also lets those of us who own guns and are responsible continue to enjoy our sport.
Look I'm not gonna get into another pointless gun-rights discussion with you. FYI I never stopped reading Canadian news since I left. Just in case you were unaware they have internet and television in Europe. FYI I had already done the research about the violence in Vancouver but at your request I did even more. Nobody is saying that gun-crime doesn't happen and nobody is saying that the dope heads aren't responsible for some of the bullshit that goes on in the streets, so I'll make a quick rebuttal to this point: While you are correct that Vancouver has a higher gun-related crime rate than Canada's average (about 30% more) it isn't the worst in Canada (it's still nearly 10% behind Toronto and 5% behind Montreal's gun-related crime rate)...and I dont see bullets flying everywhere here in Montreal. Even on weekends with thousands of drunks piling out onto downtown Montreal streets, this place is pretty docile. And Canada's overall gun-violence rate is lower than most "civilized" countries. But...as I alluded to before...I have found no evidence whatsoever to support your claim that Vancouver cops get assaulted every day. Nor have I found evidence that gun crime is so bad, so rampant and so common that Vancouver cops need space suits and P90s...or even creating their own counter terrorism unit...which even the RCMP thought was overkill. Every single report that I've read (even the crime statistic reports) say that Vancouver is still a very safe place to live. I doubt Vancouver would be in the top 10 of "best city to live in the world" for the last decade if it was the war zone you describe. It's no fucking Detroit, that's for sure...and it makes perfect sense to me for Detroit cops to be driving around in tanks...let alone wear vests all the time. Fuck...give em three vests...and some hand grenades to boot.

You don't live in the toughest neighborhood in town ya tard.
Tormentius wrote: The Conservatives have been consistently making progress on the deficit since they came into power. That doesn't ring too hollow for me, especially after lowering the GST by a very sizable amount. I compared their platform to the other parties and liked their stances the most out of the bunch after considering all the perspectives. I personally hope the Conservatives pull off a minority government again so their good ideas can be pushed through with the cooperation of the other parties and that the more unrealistic ideas can be prevented by those same parties.
I'm sorry but I find this funny: You want increased military spending, you think paying down the debt is a good idea but you think they'll do it with less tax revenues? Do you want to start deficit spending or do you want the pay down the debt because you won't have both with a smaller tax coffer. Unless of course you're talking about cutting funding to healthcare, community services (both of which you seem to not like). I don't see how lowering the GST magically gives the government more money to both pay down the debt and upgrade the military. If you have some economic secrets in your gun-rack you'd like to share feel free to post them here.

The thing that makes democracy interesting is the number of different opinions. I'm not claiming mine are completely right, and if your head isn't firmly up your ass you know yours aren't either. Its the mix of differing perspectives that make elections an interesting time. We'll have to wait a for a few more hours to see how it all turns out.
I agree. Isn't it wonderful? Oh look....we had an election and nothing changed. That was well worth it.

To appease the oil industry, the Harper government has provided millions of dollars in subsidies and muzzled government scientists to prevent them from commenting on the environmental effects of tar-sands developments.

Harper, the son of a former Imperial Oil executive, once described the Kyoto Protocol to limit greenhouse gases as “a socialist scheme to suck money out of wealth-producing nations”. The Conservatives, like their Republican counterparts in the U.S., have refused to cap greenhouse-gas emissions to curb climate change.

Also the Conservatives are against gay marriage, abortion, for guns, coporate welfare etc. In short, Torm is just plain wrong.
