Re: Fallout 4
I'm betting it'll be a Gamebryo engined game again. That's just not acceptable post GTA V / DA Inquisition / Witcher 3.
Re: Fallout 4
I don't get why people find these games good. Back when everquest was hot, moving like you're hovering over an ice sheet was alright but today it's kinda sad. I mean fine, oblivion/fallout/skyrim were ok games but the one thing that always bothered me was the movement. It sucks and in this age of gaming it shouldn't.
Re: Fallout 4
The story and world was magnificient, some very memorable missions n all, I usually hate RP games (couldn't get into the likes of Skyrim) but Fallout and NV sucked me in good after spending an hr or so getting to grips with it. The controls were clunky but you did get used to them, like I did with Day Z but it is also an old game now with all things considered.
I really hope they put the effort in with 4 n all, it could be another great game.

What about creation engine ?, which is an updated Gamebryo I think but in the same way as Source 2 is an updated source ?Mat Linnett wrote:I'm betting it'll be a Gamebryo engined game again. That's just not acceptable post GTA V / DA Inquisition / Witcher 3.

Still not got the chops when compared to modern engines running similar games. And it wasn't really a massive improvement over the flavour of Gamebryo used in Oblivion. They tweaked a few things and then announced it was a completely new engine (seriously, their PR flunky at one point tried to tell everyone it was brand new, not the same old Oblivion / Morrowind engine at all), but anyone who had played Oblivion wasn't going to be fooled for long.losCHUNK wrote:What about creation engine ?, which is an updated Gamebryo I think but in the same way as Source 2 is an updated source ?Mat Linnett wrote:I'm betting it'll be a Gamebryo engined game again. I'm sure a lot of the perceived flaws with Elder Scrolls games aren't actually the engine's fault mind you. Bad animation, repetitive voice acting and buggy quests all have to be laid at the feet of a developer who is looking increasingly out of their depth.
On the flip side, I've just finished The Witcher 3, which raises the bar for all RPGs that follow it. The quest design is so ridiculously superior to anything that's come before, unless devs like Bethesda pull their socks up, they're just going to embarrass themselves when compared to it.
Re: Fallout 4
The way you moved between areas in Fallout always was a game-ruiner for me. Hope they fix it.
I love quake!

Re: Fallout 4
Well Gamebryo was basically a renderer that handled 3rd party software, during the course of Oblivion, Fallout 3 / NV they were slowly removing the 3rd parties and using their own modules (AI / animation etc - Witcher 3 uses speedtree that was removed in Skyrim). Once Skyrim was released they created their own renderer which officially made it their own engine ?, as far as I'm aware some middleware still exists in Skyrim but on the whole Gamebryo has ceased to exist in all but scripting and 1 or 2 file names ?. I haven't done much playing in creation engine though, I didn't get on with Skyrim so I'd be happy to be put in my place but if that was the 1st iteration of their renderer and they do carry on updating what they've already done in their previous iterations then I don't think they done too bad.Mat Linnett wrote:Still not got the chops when compared to modern engines running similar games. I think if they can carry on building by increasing things like character count, quest handling and giving a major boost to gfx (DX11 too) they should be getting closer to where they need to be. Like you said I think a lot of the problems with the engine like the animations and the closed cells to progress from 1 area to another are flaws in the design process.

Did they even update the engine? It looks really outdated.
Re: Fallout 4
Looks very last gen, and way too similar to the previous entries. It's 2015, I shouldn't be able to see the polygons in the dog. Extremely underwhelming after playing the witcher. The color palette makes me wanna vom. All I could think during the trailer was that I already played this game 6 years ago. Fuck that. FUCK THIS
