i know that feeling. it's not a waste of time, i just like to think of it as a sign that you're ready to move on to a new project.

i always get that feeling when i look at a map and think: "my next map will be so much better than this in every way." i am feeling that way with my map hydra right now, that's why i just took a break and moved on to a new map, and i might even finish it before i go back to hydra. i learned so much about the art process from making hydra that my new map is coming along 10x faster and actually looks better, so why not finish it first?

of course i will finish both eventually. i guess the point is to not look at any project as a loss. that feeling of wanting to be done with a project is just a sign that your skills have grown beyond where you were when you first started this map. when that happens, i say be done with it then! seal it up, polish off whatever areas still feel bland, and release the thing. not every map has to be something you feel is perfect.

You shouldn't have problems with Windows 7. I used radiant and Q3 on it for years with no issues. Even Windows 8 still works (but with a few glitches).

What hardware are you running? How do the graphic glitches look and how do you compile (.bat from radiant..)?

Hi
i have the same problem as this guy:
https://github.com/TTimo/GtkRadiant/issues/258
Pc is Win7 32bit, 4gb RAM, core2duo @3.00Ghz, radeon hd 5450 1Gb

Tried compiling via the Build -in compile menu & q3map2build. Its the same versions of programs i used on my laptop where it all worked nice.

When i start quake3 i have something like a white frame on the start screen.
I think i will try to setup everything new.. seems something is broken :(

Whats most likely occurring is that, because you are using a different computer now, the paths to all your files etc will be different, and its throwing up errors when you try to compile.
an HD5450 GPU shouldn't have any issues running Quake 3 providing you have all the latest drivers.
Windows 7 should be perfectly fine as should Windows 8. I run Windows 8 on my main system and everything runs flawlessly.

Looks like you never seen Windows 10. That's complicated stuff :olo: Although it seems to be last version of Windows, new generation of Microsoft OS is coming up...

Im thinking on scaling and layouting again after playing QL some hours today... I think now my map is not "completly" overscaled. The last game was on Corrosion, and it was the first time that i thought "wow, this map is really big" Is it possible thats just most of my detail-stuff and trims are out-of-scale ? Im still a little confused about that scaling stuff and was thinking by the feedback that all my corridors and battlegrounds are out-of-scale.  :paranoid:

the best way to learn that stuff is to decompile lots of maps and study the dimensions.

personally i think corrosion is over-scaled (maybe not gameplay-wise for clan arena as these maps tend to be bigger.) it's my only real critique of that map. if you noclip up to the walkways for example and check out the doors and railings they are way too tall compared to the player height.

Still working on getting this one in shape and scale.

2do:
- Texture size reduction
- Scaling on crates and eyecandy-stuff
- Lightening
- Item optimisation
- AAS tweaking

I was thinking about to cancel this one but i wont... I learnd alot while working on this map so i will give "it" a chance in spite of the fact that im not completely satisfied with the result.
